UKRI International is excited to offer two skilled individuals the opportunity to join us as either an International Funds Manager or an International Partnership Manager.

The primary purpose of the International Manager roles is to:

  • Support the UKRI International teams with developing UKRI’s strategic approaches to development of a portfolio of international research and innovation partnerships or funding programmes
  • Gather, understand and integrate internal and external information into evidence-based materials (working with the International Analysis and Evaluation team) to support UKRI’s strategic approaches to international activity.
  • Coordinate and support internal UKRI networks to help integrate international across UKRI and support dialogue with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).
  • Contribute to bids to access funding to take forward collaborative opportunities in line with UKRI and Government international priorities, acting as a liaison between Councils and UKRI International.

Job description

International Funds Manager Positions (1 x Fixed Term Until March 2025)

The International Funds Managers will play a key role in the delivery and implementation of UKRI’s International Funds for example: taking responsibility for delivery of new funding opportunities, working with the other UKRI teams to engage key stakeholders, or developing international funding policy.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Support the development of the new International Science Partnerships Fund, including cross UKRI networking, coordination and communications.
  • Support, and in some cases lead, the development and commissioning of international research and capacity building programmes.
  • Management of and engagement with cohorts of projects supported through programme calls, working with the UKRI Councils to ensure a consistent approach across the UKRI portfolio and to maximise impact.
  • Carry out funding-related policy work including implementing new policy in areas such as equality, diversity and inclusion, ODA compliance and reporting, and safeguarding

International Partnership Manager Positions (1 x Open Ended)

The International Partnerships Manager will support the delivery of UKRI’s strategic approach to international partnerships, liaising with key overseas funders, and providing a supportive role on UKRI input to government-to-government joint committees, missions and visits with partner countries, working flexibly across the International Partnerships portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Liaison and day-to-day point of contact with a selection of UK and international partners, including managing agreements for joint working between UKRI and equivalent international funders
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of inward/outward/virtual engagements with partner funders, while liaising with relevant parts of UKRI
  • Contribute to, and in some cases lead on, the preparation of high-quality advice, guidance and briefing to the UKRI CEO and other senior UKRI colleagues when engaged in international activities and visits.
  • Develop and support UKRI’s input to government-to-government joint science and innovation committees, overseas missions and visits with partner countries.

Person specification

Essential

  • Educated to at least first degree or equivalent qualification, or appropriate experience relevant to the role
  • Ability to investigate and analyse problems systematically and then develop reasoned proposals for action.
  • Ability to influence and persuade others, and to negotiate diplomatically.
  • Sound project management skills, including the ability to multi-task, work flexibly and to plan, prioritise manage and deliver a diverse portfolio of projects and activities, working individually and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to travel overseas [only applicable to some roles].
