Job description

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team at Defence Munitions (DM) Beith as an Engineering Support Operative!

Defence Munitions Receive, Store, Maintain & Issue a wide range of munitions that are used by the UK armed forces to train, protect, and serve anywhere in the world. Our DM staff work closely with Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) project teams and front-line commands to ensure our troops have the right items at the right time. We work to supply our troops and provide them with a range of munitions from bullets, shells, and flares up to and including and Complex Weapons such as high-calibre ammunition and guided or targeted weapons.

In this role, you’ll be a multi-skilled operator with a level of competence in non-technical skills and work under supervision. You’ll be supporting a small team, responsible for providing support to routine processing and engineering maintenance activities to receiving, storing, maintaining, and issuing of the range of Complex Weapons including Naval Guns, and general support as required to the Complex Weapons processed on site.

We are looking for hard working and organised individuals, who can work well as part of a team in a customer focused environment working to tight timescales. You’ll display a proactive approach to risk management and strict adherence to Safe Systems of Work, while contributing to team decisions and supporting other colleagues. This is an entry level position where you’ll receive the training to develop your skill set and the experience to equip you for a successful career with us, working on exciting and meaningful projects that support the UK’s Armed Forces.

The standard hours for this role are 37 hours a week on site, Monday – Thursday 7:45 –16:30, and on Friday 7:45 – 12:45.

Above all, you will need to be accountable and diligent about safety processes and procedures to closely follow guidance that means ammunition and explosives are handled in a safe, effective, and consistent way.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct; inspections, packing, repacking and marking activities of all Complex Weapons Explosives items and articles with approved instructions in a safe and recognised manner, complying with local, departmental and national policy and procedures.
  • Ensure that Complex Weapons explosives items and articles are handled in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with Safe Systems of Work (Approval To Process) including but not limited to authorised procedures, risk assessments, manual handling & COSHH
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and house keeping within the explosives / non-explosives processing facilities
  • Able to competently operate a variety of MHE including cranes and vehicles in different environments.

  • Experience in Mechanical Handling (training will be provided)
