Job description

Are you looking for a challenging and interesting opportunity? If so, Defence Munitions (DM) Beith has the perfect position for you to join the team as a Warehouse Operative.

Defence Munitions receives stores, maintains & issues a wide range of munitions that is used by the UK armed forces to train, protect, and serve anywhere in the world. We work as an important part of the wider Ministry of Defence (MOD) establishment that supports, procures, and supplies our troops, providing them with a range of munitions components, spares and consumables required to maintain and process various complex weapons systems.

As a Warehouse Operative, you will work on a variety of tasks related to Defence Munitions, such as receipting, storage issuing and managing our inventory. You will also have opportunities to work on IT Support and other associated administrative tasks, all to ensure our armed forced are correctly supported and supplied in a timely and effective fashion.

The role is full time, 37 hours a week, Mondays to Thursdays 07:45 – 16:30 and Fridays 07:45 – 12:45. You will need to hold a Full UK driving licence as you’ll be expected to drive to different warehouses located on the depot site, and applicants must be over 18 years old to apply due to Explosive Handling Regulations. Successful candidates will also be expected to pass a Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) medical including skin and respiratory as it is a requirement before operating any equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Handling munitions and explosives in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ensuring compliance with current Safe Handling Instructions.
  • Carrying out before, during and after pre-use checks on Mechanical Handling Equipment.
  • Maintaining a high standard of security, cleanliness and housekeeping within the explosive’s storage and processing facilities.
  • Assisting with all logistics and storage activities to ensure that customers’ requirements are met on time and in full.
  • Checking all routine and/or priority receipts and issues are thoroughly checked paperwork or computer records are correctly completed.
  • Monitoring explosives safety including maintaining explosives limits and environmental conditions within the explosives processing facilities.
  • Ensuring all palletised loads are prepared and documented in accordance with the relevant Unit Load Specification

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Organisational skills with the ability to work in a pressurised, customer-focused environment to tight timescales, while remaining positive and focused on delivery
  • IT proficient, including the use of Microsoft application tools
  • Holder of a full UK driving licence (with a maximum of 6 penalty points)

It would also be great if you can demonstrate any of the following desirable criteria:

  • Previous experience of operating manual handling equipment, using hand tools/wood working equipment (full training will be provided)
