Job description

We look forward to reading your application for the role of Drones Subject Matter Expert (SME).

The selected candidate will support the drafting and development of evidence-based policing standards, support curriculum content and guidance for the use of police drones and counter drones, engaging with, consulting, and advising police forces, agencies, and other stakeholder organisations, to support the promotion and embedding of professional practice across policing

Person specification

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Collecting, interpreting and critically evaluating information and best available evidence from a range of sources to determine and develop cost-efficient, value for money options and opportunities for policing standards and guidance which promote professional approaches and deliver improvements in working practices across policing.
  • Building effective partnerships with the police service, academic institutions, local communities and other organisations to disseminate, encourage and support evidence-based good practice approaches to delivering policing-related commissions
  • Working with colleagues to identify learning and development opportunities and demands arising from relevant standards and guidance and ensure these are considered in formulating curriculum requirements and training delivery plans.

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

  • A level 4 qualification or evidence of subject matter delivery in a policing environment
  • Experience of problem-solving and using an evidence-based approach to develop and/or establish standards for professional practice in private and/or public sector organisations
  • Demonstrable experience of working successfully with organisations and/or communities to improve service delivery and implement new ways of working

This role is a designated homeworking role and will require regular travel to all College of Policing sites and to those of Policing-related organisations in England and Wales

This role is available for an initial 6 months as a secondment opportunity to:

•    colleagues employed directly by the College. Please note you will be required to obtain the written support of your line manager prior to submitting your application.

•    serving police officers substantive in the rank of Constable. All applicants must have the support of their Chief Officer which must be of NPCC rank, i.e., CC, ACC or DCC and this must accompany an application.

•    serving police staff at the equivalent rank of Constable who have their chief officer’s approval. Chief Officer’s approval must be of NPCC rank, i.e., CC, ACC or DCC. Approval for a secondment must accompany an application.

Central service conditions may apply for police officers and staff.
