Job description

This post is responsible for the provision of specialist accountancy and costing advice to both internal and external customers in the acquisition of Defence equipment and in-service support.

You will provide costing advice on the charging and recovery of costs related to single source procurement to both UK and overseas customers in accordance with the relevant procurement regulations such as the Single Source Contract Regulations (SSCR) and the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).

Further duties include:

  • Lead in the investigation of cost recovery rates
  • Capital Servicing Adjustments (CSA)
  • Overseas audits and cost claims with a portfolio of Defence contractors
  • Assist with more complex rates and claims
  • Provide specialist advice and support to staff, MOD project teams and commercial staff

You will be expected to study towards achieving full CCAB/CIMA status within 3-4 years. Access to study support will be provided through the MOD Finance Apprenticeship Scheme.

Person specification

The role requires regular engagement with people (both internal and external to the organisation), including provision of quantitative/qualitative information, and proactively contributes to team discussions and activities to support the success of the team. The role will require liaison at appropriate levels with other MOD Departments, external authorities and Defence contractors.

This post may have line management responsibility including prioritisation of duties, allocation of resources, training and development, and coaching of others.

The job holder must be AAT Level 4 (or equivalent) or Part Qualified CCAB/CIMA (or equivalent)

  • Applicants must have the ability to understand the concept of CAAS and in-contract management processes and controls.
Alongside your salary of £33,830, Ministry of Defence contributes

CAAS operate a hybrid working policy subject to business need. There is flexibility to split the working week combining working at home and spending a minimum of 40% in the workplace, unless exceptional circumstances apply and/or you are an existing contractual home worker.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.

External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.

When a candidate has a banked score they’re not asked to re-take the same test providing it is set at the same level. Scores will be banked for a 6 month period from the date of test completion. If a candidate is invited to take the same test against multiple vacancies, the banked score will be recognised against all vacancies and all active applications will progress.

 CSJT scores cannot be banked as each test is generated from the behaviours required for a specific role which will vary between recruitment campaigns.
