Job summary

Have you ever thought about getting more from your career, and using all your skills, knowledge and expertise on the global stage? Taking on a dynamic, multi-faceted role with an organisation with a key objective to deliver a first-class service for the UK government and our international partners. A career where your work will help to protect and secure our vital mission. If you’re looking for your job, but bigger, this could be your next move.

Job description

As a trusted government partner, we work on a huge range of projects, and help protect the UK’s global interests. We design and construct secure government buildings. We help earthquake-proof embassies. We courier diplomatic packages across continents. We keep complex projects on track, and on budget. We store visa applications securely in the Cloud. And a whole lot more besides. It’s important work, and you could take your career to new heights as you focus your talents on a wide range of exciting projects.

Deliver logistics solutions that support our global mission.

When you join us as Head of Global Logistics, you’ll oversee our logistics operations by working with all the department’s business areas to ensure the containment, transportation and delivery of consignments to posts in a wide range of regions around the world. It’s critical work, and in addition to responding quickly to fast-developing global situations, you’ll be ready to recognise untapped opportunities and deliver solutions that produce real benefits for our customers and your colleagues. With a relentless focus on operational excellence and security, you’ll be committed to maximising the efficiency and profitability of our operation while achieving best practice in everything you and the department do.

Your tasks won’t stop here – you’ll work across operations to drive improvements in customer, financial and delivery performance, and provide inspirational leadership, direction and motivation to your team of around 150 colleagues. Guiding system development and driving the implementation of lean processes across all our supply chain activities, we’ll also expect you to ensure that the services we provide are rigorously managed through controlled change, follow defined Health and Safety Standards and provide robust governance and transparent reporting.

Help to deliver the changes that will protect the UK’s interests around the world.

With a relevant professional or business qualification, and membership of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, you’ll have well developed hands-on experience of your field, ideally across a number of industries such as FMCG, industrial, transport and e- commerce. We’ll expect you to possess a proven track record of managing supply chains, logistics, production and distribution operations in a global environment, and your excellent communication and management skills will make you an inspirational team leader.

Committed to driving strategic and operational change, and with superb negotiating and influencing skills, you’ll be capable of working with your team to accomplish objectives, meet performance targets and achieve service delivery excellence. Ready to integrate initiatives to deliver our customers’ net zero environmental and sustainability agendas, you’ll have the ability to ensure that systems and processes are in place to provide the safe running of facilities in line with Health & Safety requirements. Resilient and level-headed under pressure, we’ll also expect you to employ a continuous improvement approach to your work and possess a clear understanding of budgeting and lifetime operational costs.

Grow your career in the biggest way possible.

When you join us, you’ll be contributing to protecting the nation’s interests at home and overseas. How will we help you in return? We offer a competitive salary, 25-30 days’ annual leave per year (depending on length of service) and a Civil Service pension. While working in the UK you’ll have access to an on-site gym, nursery, canteen, and we offer interest-free loans on season tickets and bikes to help you get there. Above all else, we can offer your job, bigger. As Head of Global Logistics, you’ll be using all your skills with an organisation that protects people, information and assets around the world. Using your skills in a way that just means more.

Every single colleague must be security cleared before joining us. If you’re successful in your application, we’ll ask you to undergo our process. You can find out more about this on our website: https://www.fcdoservicescareers.co.uk/how-to-apply/
