Job summary

We are looking to recruit a number of outstanding accounting professionals to join us in our new Regulatory Engagement Directorate as Financial Analysis Managers at the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH).  

We are responsible for the regulation of registered social housing providers across England,  overseeing a sector which, at March 2022 had: £187.1bn of assets; an annual turnover of £22.8bn and, finance costs of £3.3bn.  The social housing sector owns and maintains 2.8 million homes in England and invested £12.3bn in new supply in 2022.

From April 2024, the RSH’s regulation, which has focused on financial viability, governance and value for money will be expanded to included consumer regulation, a decision that reflects the government’s desire to ensure that residents in social housing are safe, are listened to, live in good quality homes, and have access to redress when things go wrong.

Job description

As a Financial Analysis Manager, you will use your professional skills to assess and articulate the level of financial risk faced by individual providers.As such these roles offers a unique opportunity for individuals who want to apply their professional skills and understanding in a varied environment, engaging directly with providers, anticipating risks, and working with senior colleagues to agree next steps.  

As members of our Regulatory Engagement teams, you will play a pivotal role in the success of our regulation by working to build a clear understanding of the financial, economic and governance risks that large scale social landlords face, including – the impact of the external economic climate and a wide range of treasury considerations.

Working on a portfolio of providers you will have the opportunity to used detailed financial information, modelled and analysed by our own business intelligence team, together with your own analysis of business plans and other financial information and landlord intelligence to develop robust, blended assessments of landlord’s financial strength. 

Supported by senior, experienced financial regulators, these roles offer a great opportunity to develop exceptionally strong analytical skills with real-time application, in a team environment that is committed to collaborative working, knowledge sharing and a commitment to work with a social value.

Person specification

As the successful candidate, you will have a financial background and a relevant professional qualification  and be able to demonstrate excellent analytical skills with an ability to exercise sound professional judgement. You will also demonstrate an ability to appraise financial performance and business strategy in order to draw out the key issues and reach conclusions. An understanding of regulation and ability to understand good governance and risk management principles is desirable.
