Job summary

The FGen Business Unit provides the Royal Navy’s Scheduling Authority, its In-Service Capability Management, an Intelligent Customer function and, discharges legislative Duty Holding Responsibilities/Risk to Life management. Director Force Generation’s portfolio includes DD Plans, DD SM, DD Avn, DD Logs, DD LS. Naval Bases Clyde, Devonport and Portsmouth; Naval Air stations Yeovilton and Culdrose, AFSUP and Logistics policy.   

The FGen BU contributes to achieving the Defence Tasks set out each year in the Defence Plan and key activity & deliverables set out in the annual Royal Navy Command Plan. 

The primary purpose of this post is to support and assure RMC maritime inventory.   Leading on strategy, continuous improvement of forecasting and inventory management for all in service maritime platforms. 

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

Responsible for the management of RMC (Raw Materials and Consumables) inventory across Navy Command, DE&S and the SDA. Through delegated budget ownership, manages RMC funding on behalf of Navy Command and acts as an effective support solution that facilitates control and availability. 

The post holder will be required to: 

  1. Assess maritime inventory planning activity by 1* budget holders, DE&S, and SDA. Evaluating inventory forecasting to determine it is in line with requirements and if further improvements can be found to improve accuracy and cost effectiveness.   
  2. Engage with other Front-Line Command (FLC) and across Defence to ensure coherence with wider defence inventory strategy, including Defence Support Transformation and Defence Support Operating Model.  
  3. Identify areas of Navy inventory improvement that could be incorporated into wider Defence Supply Chain Transformation activity. 
  4. Alongside staff from the Finance Division and Capability Teams, attend PCRs to review inventory planning/forecasting across the portfolio in order identify where improvements and efficiencies can be made. Advise those attending and the C2 role on areas for development.
  5. Identify areas of inventory consumption that warrant detailed investigation from a cost consciousness perspective and work to improve the demand and future usage patterns in these areas.
  6. Attend established meetings as the RMC SME as required.
  7. Influence the development of digital systems to improve inventory data capture.
  8. Inform maritime inventory strategy to optimise performance.
  9. Engage with Industry partners to identify opportunities for improvements to inventory management within the bounds of direct contractor engagement.
  10. Deputise for SO1 JSC on all RMC matters.
  11. Line manage 1 x C2 

Person specification

The successful candidate should have over 5 experience in Inventory Management, Financial Management and Logistics.

The ability to communicate effectively at all levels across defence, whilst clearly presenting complex information. To be both self-confident and a self-starter, able to work alongside subject matter experts in the Capability and Commodities teams.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.
