Purpose of the role 

The Governance Officer will contribute towards a diverse range of activities, alongside and reporting to the Head of Governance and Secretariat, to ensure that the appropriate infrastructure is in place and working to support the operation of the organisation.  

The Governance Officer will be responsible for supporting and coordinating core corporate governance activities across the organisation and to ensure it is operating in accordance with recognised good corporate standards.  

The post-holder will play a key role in enabling the smooth running of the organisational strategy of the IMA, and will be responsible for supporting:  

  • Effective governance arrangements within the IMA 
  • Collaborating & communicating with a wide range of stakeholders 
  • Effective support in day to day activities, including communicating corporate governance processes. 

The post-holder will pay attention to detail and be able to work quickly and accurately. The post-holder will be providing support to leadership in the Corporate and Governance Directorate, and on corporate and governance issues to employees and teams across the IMA.  

What will you be doing? 

The successful candidate will be required to carry out the following responsibilities:  

  • Coordinate risk management activities across the organisation via updates to risk registers and draft risk management reports; 
  • Coordinate key corporate governance activities across the organisation notably:
  • Overall oversight of the IMA Policy Framework 
  • Directorate Performance Reporting 
  • Provide updates on IMA compliance against  
  • Internal Audit Actions 
  • Government Functional Standards 
  • Management Assurance Statements  
  • Research and collate the latest information relating to corporate governance policies; 
  • Communicate and promote corporate governance policies to the organisation; and 
  • Support staff training on corporate governance policies.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and can prioritise workload and tailor this to meet the needs of the business

Desirable Skills 

  • Knowledge of risk management 
  • Experience of working in a government or public service department in a corporate governance setting 
  • Corporate governance qualification e.g. CIPFA Diploma in Corporate Governance
