Job summary

The JICC International Tactical Advisors (ITAs) Network provides training and tactical advice to policing on international enquiries and how to access the services and expertise of the JICC and NCA’s wider capabilities.

Eligibility:

 
This role is a closed competition and to apply you need to be:

  • Police officers at the rank of Sergeant/Detective Sergeant on a lateral basis,
  • Police officers at the rank of Constable/Detective Constable with relevant experience to the role,
  • Police staff on a lateral basis or on Temporary Promotion.

Job description

Location:

  • We are looking to recruit candidates  to the following regions:
    South West (2 vacancies), South Wales (2 vacancies) and Eastern regions (2 vacancies), North East (1 vacancy), North West (1 vacancy) and Yorkshire & Humberside (1 vacancy).
  • Successful candidates will be assigned a policing force based on their home location which they will be required to travel in order to attend meetings and deliver awareness sessions/training. 
  • Please specify your current force and policing region when applying. We will look to post successful candidates within their policing region in merit order by location. Please refer to the FAQ’s on page 15 for further details.
  • There may be future vacancies coming up in other regions.

Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience of partnership working
  • Working knowledge of international tools and channels
  • Willingness to travel for delivery of role, training and conferences both nationally and internationally
  • Effective decision maker (key ability to gather, ability to analyse critically, and take ownership for resolving problems)
  • Current experience of working in policing

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of drafting/report writing and presentation skills
  • Experience working with a national team

Person specification

As part of the JICC International Tactical Advisors (ITAs) team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for looking after a cluster of UK police forces on a regional basis and advising on risk in their thematic areas
  • To act as a Tactical Advisor across policing and law enforcement partners on international tools and channels
  • Support local management meetings to understand opportunities in high risk/high profile cases and mitigate any identified risks
  • Promote and deliver training/awareness around international opportunities/tools in order to support and enhance that provided by Forces and force ILOs (International Liaison Officers)
  • Maintain Force ILO’s awareness of new tools, forms, policies and procedures
  • Active liaison with Force and partner agencies around international opportunities and FNOs, to identify, deliver and promote good practice
  • Help Forces understand their use of and performance with international tools 
  • Help and assist partner agencies (Home Office, NCA, CPS, ACRO, FLEC, PRUM), with gateways and understanding of enquiries within UK Police forces 
  • In turn, expedite enquiries where possible through coordination of parties involved 
  • Advise on the completion of correct/latest forms, tools and risk assessments, circulations and be a conduit for best practice and lessons learnt
  • Providing on call support 
  • Maintaining personal responsibility for compliance with procedures and legislation 
  • Raising local issues and concerns in order to inform and influence national Law enforcement activity
  • Requirement to travel within or outside the UK – such travel may also include attendance at conferences or seminars for the purpose of updating and maintaining your professional skills
