Senior Lawyer
Birmingham, West Midlands (with hybrid working)

We are looking for a Senior Lawyer to join our team in Birmingham, where you will advise and provide legal support on a wide range of matters, which range in complexity and manage a varied and complex caseload.

Job description

As a Senior Lawyer, you will handle a complex and varied caseload which will includes gambling law, public law, regulatory law, licensing, prosecutions, employment law, freedom of information and subject access requests, as well as much more.

Your role will also involve:

– Managing and advising on regulatory, licensing, compliance and enforcement cases, including preparing cases for Regulatory panels, tribunals and court hearings.
– Advising on policy matters and assisting in the development and implementation of projects, guidelines and operational matters.
– Providing solution-focused and well-reasoned legal advice at pace on a variety of subject matters.
– Working closely and providing complex legal advice to senior internal stakeholders, operations, and policy specialists. This includes engaging with external stakeholders.
– Attending key decision-making and committee meetings in an advisory capacity.
– Maintaining excellent working relationships with the Commission’s external solicitors and counsel and delivering value for money.
– Managing and supporting in the training and development of junior lawyers

This is a hybrid role, therefore there will be a requirement to attend our Birmingham Office.

Person specification

– Holds a practicing certificate with at least 5 years PQE as a Solicitor / Barrister or a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives entitled to practice in England and Wales.
– Public law and litigation experience, including advising and leading on a range of licensing and regulatory matters, including interpretation and exercise of statutory powers.
– Experience of managing a varied caseload of both advisory and litigation matters ranging in complexity and size.
– Strong intellectual and analytical skills.
– A track record of sound judgement and the authority to command the confidence of internal senior officials.
– A commitment to equality and diversity.
Alongside your salary of £58,000, Gambling Commission contributes
£15,660 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
