Job summary

This new role will support the Project Safety Lead (Grade 7) in managing the safety of our Major Project and Construction activities, working closely with both the H&S Function and the Estates, Security and Network Directorates (ESND) Project Delivery Team (PDT).
Job description
The advisor will work collaboratively with our central H&S Function and PDT, focusing on site engagement and communications; ensuring Client strategy and expected standards are consistently adopted across all FCDO construction projects. They will advise on health and safety matters or concerns, providing up-to-date advice and knowledge of best practice in a construction setting, whilst ensuring adherence to our standards (aligned to CDM Regulations 2015) and driving improvement across all projects.
The post-holder will be responsible for maintaining a watching brief on project compliance (client side) and working closely with project teams to ensure health and safety is considered and applied at all stages of a project lifecycle.
You will help to co-ordinate, advise and support Project Teams on all aspects of Health and Safety, with a focussed objective to ensure statutory and Client obligations are met.
Supporting the FCDO Intelligent Client for H&S, you will seek assurances that safe by design principles are being considered, and construction related risks are being managed adequately by the supply chain.
This role will also require the post holder to investigate incidents, requiring overseas travel and potentially at short notice.
Person specification
We are looking for someone with:
- As a minimum, hold the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Construction Health and Safety or equivalent qualification (NCRQ, NVQ, BSc, MSc).
- Experience of working both autonomously and as part of a matrix function
- Corporate and Site based H&S experience; with an understanding of the wider organisational activities
- Awareness and understanding of the CDM Regulations 2015 and general principles of prevention.
- Experience of matrix working across a programme or portfolio of projects.
- Experience of liaising with major stakeholders and supply chain in a sensitive environment.
