The Trade and Investment Negotiations – Goods Directorate (TING) is part of the Trade Policy, Implementation and Negotiations (TPIN) Group, in the Department for Business and Trade (DBT).
Delivery Focused
TING plays a pivotal role in coordinating trade interests and leading the UK’s trade policy for manufactured goods. We deliver and implement trade policy and agreements which reflect the needs of UK businesses, so that exporters can be successful and competitive internationally, whether with Europe or the rest of the world.

Delivery, Engagement and Strategic Support Team (DESS)
The Delivery, Engagement and Strategic Support team is focused on the successful delivery of priority projects and supporting wider delivery across the directorate.
The UKCA team sits within DESS and works to successfully implement the new UK product marking approach. This includes an extensive programme of communications, engagement, and policy interventions.
The strategic support side of the team comprises the directorates business and programme management functions and plays a crucial role in making policy and implementation work happen. The team supports the wider directorate on priority projects, finance, governance and people policies, and ensures that the directorate’s work is organised effectively.
Job description
We are recruiting an Assistant Project Manager in the Trade and Investment Negotiations (Goods) Directorate. The team is responsible for designing and implementing the UK’s goods safety regime and providing strategic support to the directorate.
Our team is working to ensure both domestic and international manufacturers are ready and able to adapt to the UK’s new goods regulation regime post EU-exit. Manufacturers both in the UK and around the world need to make changes, so we are delivering an extensive programme of communications and engagement to support industry.
This role will offer an outstanding opportunity to help deliver our priorities of supporting manufacturers and protecting consumers. You will take on an exciting area of work to support the work of the Deputy Director alongside leading on governance arrangements to make sure there is robust oversight and decision making for priority projects.
You will join a high-performing team and will work collaboratively with a diverse group of people to deliver in fast-moving and often changing circumstances. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing our governance process, tracking progress against the teams key milestones and deliverables and escalating where necessary.
- Working with colleagues across the team, the wider directorate and DBT to form and maintain strong working relationships.
- Effective management of diaries for SCS plus arranging meetings, printing, collating and distributing papers.
- Arranging logistics for meetings and other key events.
- Taking responsibility for specific deliverables as required by the Deputy Director.
- Ensuring team processes are up to date and functioning effectively.

Interviews for this vacancy will be conducted virtually. We will, however, consider in-person interviews by exception.
