Job summary
MOD – Navy – The Submarines Directorate is responsible for all submarine in service capability and availability, including oversight of the Submarine Flotilla and Clyde Naval Base. Its purpose is to generate a submarine service with battle winning capability and readiness.
You would be working within The DDSM Area which is primarily responsible for in service capability management and is responsible for the safety of In Service Submarines, maintaining the overarching Health, Safety and Environmental Management Plan(s). The Deputy Director Submarines is the SM Operating Duty Holder (ODH), for the management of Risk to Life ( RtL ) within his AoR , which encompasses the whole submarine service, including the in build boat. In addition DDSM is the head of in service submarine capability delivery team (SM CDT) the team are responsible for a number of in service improvement projects/programmes and provide end user feedback to support future capability development. Alongside this DDSMs team manage a number of trials and audits within the submarine flotilla.
The post holder will proactively manage risks and issues facing the Deputy Director Submarines area of responsibility by co-ordinating the consistent identification, monitoring and reporting of risks and issues.
The RAIDO Manager will implement the Navy RAIDO Management Strategy to ensure that all key risks to the achievement of programme objectives are identified, assessed, and managed to within acceptable levels. To support programme decision making, the RAIDO Manager will ensure that risk management controls, documentation and processes are in place and adhered to; this includes providing advice on the management of programme risk contingency where applicable.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to be able to communicate with people at all levels, both within and outside of the DDSM area, and represent the work-group with confidence.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team across different projects.
- A methodical approach to data collection with the capability to summarise large amounts of information into essential elements.
- Self-motivation and ability to maintain consistent performance and delivery.
- Willingness to work on both qualitative and quantitative projects, with training provided if required.
- Ability to pay attention to detail to ensure that project reports and papers are of the highest quality.
- Good communication skills, both written and oral.
- Competence with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel).

The post does not offer relocation expenses.
