The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is a part of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in-service support, and disposal of the UK’s nuclear submarines. Job description

Are you an experienced Quality professional with a desire to support the UK’s defence programme? If so, we have a motivating and inspiring role available to join our In-Service Submarine (ISM) team based at HMNB Devonport. This is an excellent opportunity to join an integrated team of highly skilled professionals, where you will help ensure the platforms, systems and equipment we deliver to the UK military front-line is safe to use and has minimal environmental impact.

As part of our ISM team, you will implement the necessary assurance strategies in order to promote quality culture and assure quality and safety at Devonport. Working across all submarine programmes, you’ll provide support and advice on quality assurance (QA) improvement interventions and ensure proper engagement with selected submarine programme suppliers. You’ll develop and deliver quality through governance, assurance, and improvement to ISO 9001:2015 requirements and MOD mandated policy.

Due to the security requirements related to the sensitivity of our work, this role is reserved for sole UK nationals only.

This post may be eligible for the NSQEP Recruitment Retention Allowance of up to £4000 per annum. This allowance is discretionary and will be dependent on a candidate’s ability to successfully demonstrate the necessary competency, qualifications, and experience to an independent panel of Subject Matter Experts. 

Responsibilities

  • Implementing necessary assurance strategies for QA on behalf of ISM, including safety critical and nuclear
  • Supporting the evaluation of risks, including platform, nuclear safety and security related, and developing appropriate quality mitigation actions
  • Carrying out audits, inspections, investigations and peer reviews of supplier organisations and internal, in accordance with the ISM audit plan
  • Providing advice on the integrity and acceptability of QA and deliverables of all classes of in-service submarines
  • Collaborating with stakeholders on matters relating to nuclear and non-nuclear quality and safety, their assurance and other relevant initiatives and regulation
  • Using appropriate methods to assess supplier capability and performance and to identify and analyse quality-related risk, failure and non-conformance
  • Supporting the development of team members including graduates and apprentices by offering advice and guidance when needed

You will join our Quality Development Scheme and we will support you in achieving your MoD Practitioner License.

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Demonstrable experience in industry/manufacturing and quality assurance, gained from involvement with multiple projects, including supply chain engagement
  • Hold a minimum of a HNC (e.g., Level 4 or higher) qualification in a relevant Engineering or Science subject, or will demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Engineering, industry and/or manufacturing experience from a quality environment (such as quality control, quality assurance, auditing, or similar)
