Job Summary

The Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO) is looking for an experienced Assurance Manager, to provide independent health checks across our portfolio of projects. These reviews will validate if  our projects are on track, are being  appropriately managed and continue to align to CCS strategy.  

The role includes managing a portfolio of projects and ensuring reviews are scheduled and delivered in a timely manner to meet the project’s objectives and benefits stated within the business case. There will also be the need, where necessary, to provide clear independent recommendations and work closely with the project to report on  these activities to aid a successful delivery.

Team Summary

The EPMO consists of  5 staff who work with senior leaders across CCS to influence the  Crown Commercial’s  portfolio of internal and external investments . They work closely with Strategy, Finance and the business to support projects, initiatives and external investments  from early scoping through to benefit realisation. They also provide assurance to the Executive Board on the health of the portfolio they are investing in.

Job description

Key Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring projects or activities have appropriate levels of assurance for the complexity of the project

  • Management of pipeline of assurance activities in line with the  CCS Portfolio

  • Management and delivery of RAID Reviews against CCS Portfolio to enable upward reporting and escalation to theExecutive Board

  • Responsible for leading a number of assurance activities across either one or several projects

  • Preparing and delivering health-check reports to Senior Responsible Officers (SRO) and internal governance groups

  • Ensuring that agreed recommendations activities are implemented, and that any lessons learned are applied to future change initiatives

  • Leads the timely and accurate reporting of integrated assurance plans and milestones to support departmental or board level assurance activities

  • Planning and oversight of 3rd party audit actions (e.g Internal Audit) and tracking their completion

Person specification

Essential Criteria (to be assessed on application):

  • Detailed knowledge and experience of project/programme assurance or Internal Audit 

  • Project and/or Programme Management qualification e.g. Managing Successful Programmes, Prince2, APM Practitioner qualification.

  • Awareness of change control processes and how they are applied.

  • Awareness of business change and implementation

  • Effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to create a sense of community amongst the project/programme teams
