Job summary

DOSR is responsible for regulation of safety across Defence activities associated with: the acquisition and in-service operational safety management of Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives (including Lasers), MOD Ranges where live-firing, trials and operation of OME takes place and, Major Accident Control Regulations (MACR) on certain MOD establishments which are designed to prevent major accidents involving dangerous substances and limit the consequences to people and the environment of any accidents which do occur.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

The Post Holder is responsible for planning, developing and delivering the DOSR Assurance programme of inspections, audits and assessments for Explosives Safety, Range Safety and Major Accident Control. They will be required to take enforcement action i/a/w DSA Policy when necessary. They are also responsible for contributing to the DOSR Annual Report. They will also support the reviewing and updating of the associated Defence regulations and guidance. As a DOSR-ATL, the job holder reports directly to the DOSR-Team-Leader. The post holder has line management responsibilities for 4 C1 and is CSO for 5 C2 staff.

Person specification

We are looking for someone who is energetic, enthusiastic, and used to working collaboratively within a team to join the DSA at Grade 7 Assistant Team Leader level, to work primarily on delivery of DOSR’s Assurance Programme. The role is based at the DSA Abbey Wood site. The post will require some travel between other DSA sites within the UK and travel overseas.

You will support the team in delivering an efficient, well-informed, and coordinated service in a fast- paced environment, providing responses that are accurate, expert, and timely. You will play a vital role in ensuring the acquisition of OME is conducted and documented in accordance with Regulations, thereby maintaining the reputation of the DSA and the MOD. You will have a technical understanding of OME.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.
