Job summary

The Project Delivery and Change Directorate (PD&C) sits within Corporate Services, at the Department for Business and Trade (DBT). 

Following the Machinery of Government Change in February 2023 which saw BEIS and DIT join together, we have come to the end of our initial transition period in creating DBT. The next stage is all about driving the long-term effectiveness of our new Department. This will be delivered under the banner of Delivering One DBT, through five aims of: People, Place, Delivery, Digital and Data, and Running the Business.

Working within the newly formed DBT Opportunities Team, this exciting and stretching role will play an important role in ensuring the Delivering One DBT project achieves this objective. The team is friendly, enthusiastic and adaptable to new challenges as our remit evolves.

The post-holder should be a confident and persuasive communicator, enjoy managing relationships with internal stakeholders and delivering through others.

As well as strong interpersonal skills, the post holder should have an interest in developing strong strategic and delivery capability. They will provide strategic support in developing and implementing the One DBT Framework approach. They will also have a key role in project governance and ensuring that Senior Civil Servants are effectively briefed.

Job description

  • Building and sustaining strong relationships to influence and deliver through colleagues and senior leaders across DBT, communicating confidently and providing challenge where necessary to ensure we get the information we need, and supporting them to deliver.
  • Working to identify and recommend approaches to cross-cutting delivery issues in line with the One DBT framework.
  • Working collaboratively to support effectiveness planning and prioritisation initiatives as these are progressed through the framework.
  • Providing direct governance support to the One DBT Board.
  • Providing an effective and efficient project management oversight function across the team. This will include: managing key PMO products for team; co-coordinating day-to-day briefing and reporting commissions for the team.
  • Task management of an EO Project Support Officer (TBC).

  • Excellent communication/drafting skills and the ability to build relationships across teams.
  • Excellent personal organisation skills (including desirable experience of project management), and an ability to balance competing priorities and work well under pressure.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively, with the ability to develop proposals at pace taking differing priorities into account.

Interviews for this vacancy will be conducted virtually. We will, however, consider in-person interviews by exception.
