Job summary
This is an exciting and unique opportunity to join the Office for Investment (OfI) as an Investment Manager. Working at the heart of Government, this role will be responsible for driving forward the OfIs investment promotion and origination function across the regions.
The OfI is a joint Department for Business and Trade and 10 Downing Street unit and is building a presence across the UK regions and nations to help level up the country through high value inward investment.
The OfI uses the strength and expertise of Government departments to encourage investment into sectors including infrastructure, clean technologies and research and development, in all corners of the UK.
This is a managerial role with responsibility for: supporting Senior Civil Servants in investment stimulation; project delivery and oversight; regional engagement and outreach, and development and delivery of investment initiatives.
In this role you will be responsible for managing and delivering high-value, high-impact investments from across the UK that are aligned with HMGs strategic priorities such as Net Zero, Levelling Up and becoming a science and technology superpower. This will include working closely with the OfIs Senior Leadership Team and Ministers to provide cross-Whitehall support to high priority international investors and wider stakeholders looking to invest in the UK.
You will ensure that investment projects are managed well from outline concept to practical implementation and will play a critical role in DBT’s work to ensure that Government support for firms investing and expanding in the UK is aligned with, and delivering against, Government objectives.
The projects you will lead may draw upon resource from across the department and Government to form cross-functional teams and this role would therefore suit someone who enjoys and is confident in establishing and building relationships at all levels in an organisation.
Job description
- You will be a senior manager in the OfI; setting a leadership example across a project delivery remit to ensure excellence of delivery from the OfI.
- You will work closely with Directors and Deputy Directors in the OfI, especially the regional team, to convene and coordinate cross-government teams, taking ownership of driving forward momentum to deliver high priority inward investment from international investors.
- You will lead investment projects, championing a UK-wide approach to land international investments aligned to Government priorities.
- You will support policy development and advancing initiatives designed to promote and secure investment across the UK, supporting the Office for Investments wider strategic direction.
- You will develop strong relationships with DBT’s delivery teams in the regions and nations, overseas, and sector specialist.
- You will provide advice to senior leaders and ministers and represent the OfI to external stakeholders and to Government colleagues as required.
- You will keep abreast of emerging issues and trends across the investment sector and area of work which might influence or benefit our work.

Essential Criteria
- Experience delivering complex projects and driving them forward at pace.
- You will be a self-starter, able to operate proactively and independently in a fast paced and highly senior environment.
- Ability to lead and direct, and to creatively resolve delivery problems and take initiative.
- Ability to effectively engage stakeholders and facilitate collaborative working, and to build a strong senior network both internally and externally.
- You will have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of effectively engaging senior stakeholders including Ministers (or equivalent) on high profile areas.
- Experience of working with teams and organisations across the UK and across Government departments.
- External client facing/commercial experience.
- Ability to respond flexibly to change, ensuring our area of work continues to join-up with wider strategic and organisational priorities.
- A willingness to learn and adapt in an ambiguous and changing environment, and the ability to help others do the same.

Interviews for this vacancy will be conducted virtually. We will, however, consider in-person interviews by exception.
