Job summary

This role is for Maternity cover for the role of The Corporate Health and Safety Specialist (CHaSS) who will work closely with the Division key stakeholders in order to provide advice and support on the necessary corporate strategies and provide independent assurance of compliance with MOD central requirements. The CHASS will support and drive the implementation of corporate HS&EP initiatives with the Divisions’ safety teams; the role requires the development of effective and open communication and engagement of strategies with key stakeholders. The CHASS is an integral link to the Divisions, in driving the right safety thinking so that the highest standards of performance are fully integrated within the DSTL values.

The role requires the CHaSS to drive and support the Dstl strategy that impacts key stakeholder, this include development of any Divisional safety initiative and future programmes in line with the MOD requirements on Dstl . The role will contribute to, lead on and support initiatives and assurance activities in line with the corporate assurance framework. The CHaSS will provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) support to Divisional Safety teams and key stakeholders for independent expert advice.

Job description

In this role you will:

  • Engage with and be the active interface between the Corporate H&S and Divisions . to assure that H&S is being consistently delivered according to the Dstl vision, strategy, policy, processes and systems.
  • To deliver monitor and support Line 2 assurance across divisions activities for Dstl acting as the independent mind and conscious for the divisions.
  • To support and advise key stakeholders on the planning, implementation and review of Dstl Health and Safety Processes and Systems, supporting  change through coaching and mentoring and practical support
  • Support Risk Assurance and Governance team with  corporate investigation as either lead investigators or SME’s
  • Support the scheduling and delivery of Line 2 assurance to evaluate the compliance and effectiveness of H&S systems and processes and identify improvements.
  • Creating condition for improvement and change within Divisions / Functions
  • To be Strategic leaders and facilitator for Safety Leadership training with responsibility for upskilling Division key stake holders in supporting the strategic direction.
  • To be the appointed Stewards for the management and reviewing of current Processes with in Value chain 5.
  • To work with Safety management and key stakeholders to build a mature Just Culture, Facilitating and directing  Safety Competencies for Divisional  improvement programmes in line with Line 2 assurance compliance.

Person specification

We are are looking for someone who has:

  • A strong evidence of possessing Core Health & Safety knowledge with the ability to communicate and influence key stakeholders
  • Able to input and collaborate effectively with key stakeholders and the HS&EP team to deliver the HS&EP Strategy, training and policy.
  • The ability to lead from the front and be a role model for Health & Safety champion for Dstl ,action g as the voice of the CE and Head of Safety
  • Good verbal and written communication and report writing skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as core H&S specialist you will be required to be a leader in supporting and liaising with stakeholders directly.
