Equality and Diversity – Department for Education

Data is integral to achieving this vision and the roles on offer are part of the Data Directorate within DFE. As a directorate, we provide a full range of data sourcing, management, governance, sharing, statistics and visualisation capabilities and products to users across DFE, the education sector, cross-government and citizens. We are seeking high capability Senior Data Engineers to help us achieve our vision.

The department has a complex set of data interactions in both legacy technologies and emerging requirements for modern cloud-based approaches, and this role will be a key enabler to support development, deployment and servicing of re-producible pipelines and will work closely with other key roles within and across multi-functional data product squads to achieve that aim.

The Engineering Division sits at the heart of the Data Directorate and is responsible for the development and implementation of data and digital products and services.

As a Data Analyst you will play a key role in enabling us to continue our journey of embedding a data analysis capability, and enabling data products to be created, that are of high quality, performant and deliver real world value across the educational sector.

Job description

You will be a Data Analyst in one of a number of critical projects ongoing within the DFE.

Your main responsibilities will be to support the establishment of a new data analyst capability within the division, as well as work directly within projects, establishing yourself as an SME for the data products you are working with and ensuring they are of known quality and understanding .

You will:

  • Be the data analyst within an assigned data product team, driving out insight and working with permanent and contractor data analysts.
  • Conduct source data profiling and analysis that meets the user needs and requirements for critical data products.
  • You will be responsible for the creation, ownership and iteration of data product specification documentations, and ensuring that it enables users to fully understand the data they access.
  • You will support the creation of relevant documentation for the data products within your remit.
  • You will support the drive to implement a data quality approach within the data product space, by helping establish a data analysis framework.
  • You will support collaboration with data engineers, and data architects to identify opportunities for process improvements, recommend system modifications, and develop policies for data governance.
  • You will build and maintain relationships with group portfolios in the DfE and the domain experts across the data landscape to foster partnership working and an inclusive approach to data analysis.
