One key responsibility for a Management Accounts Officer is meticulously managing the General Ledger’s accuracy. Delve into transaction analysis, prepare correction journals  with precision, and collaborate with Finance Business Partners to upload budgets and forecasts to Sun systems. Your expertise extends to crafting and posting monthly journals, including accruals and prepayments, within specified timeframes.

As a vital team member, produce timely and accurate financial information for internal analysis and external publications. Conduct monthly and compliance checks, ensuring Ofgem’s transactions align with internal and cross-government policies. Embrace the challenge of maintaining a comprehensive audit trail and assisting in internal and external audit queries.

The Management Accounts Officer will address issues related to data reliability and accuracy. Utilise tools like Power Bi and Power Pivots to enhance the efficiency and insights of financial Management Information.

The role also includes updating the financial system, maintaining accruals/prepayments logs, and generating regular and ad-hoc MI reports. Dive into financial analysis and contribute to the development of a robust data and reporting environment.

Experience in a finance team with a strong understanding of financial reporting, analysis, and financial reconciliations (LEAD), alongside a sound understanding of resource accounting, budgeting, and forecasting is essential.

Job description

Ofgem is a non-ministerial government department and an independent National Regulatory Authority. Our principal objective is to protect the interests of existing and future electricity and gas consumers. We do this by promoting value for money, promoting security of supply and sustainability, for present and future generations of consumers, domestic and industrial users, the supervision and development of markets and competition, regulation and the delivery of government schemes. We work effectively with, but are independent of, government, the energy industry and other stakeholders within a legal framework determined by the UK government and the European Union.  

Working within the Central Finance Team, the post holder will provide support during the audit of Ofgem’s Annual Report and Accounts and the completion of month end procedures. 

Ofgem operate a Flexible Resourcing model. Longer term you may will have the opportunity to work flexibly across Ofgem supporting on a range of projects or may have a longer deployment within a team where you have in-demand specialist skills, knowledge, and expertise.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Ensure General Ledger is accurate and complete through transaction analysis and preperation of correction journals. 
  • Work with Finance Business Partners (FBPS) and Management Accountant to prepare and post budget and forecast uploads to Sun systems 
  • Prepare and post monthly journals, including accruals and prepayments, within set timeframes and support FBPs through month end proceses. 
  • Produce accurate and timely financial information for internal analysis and for external publications. 
  • Carry out monthly and compliance checks of Ofgem transactions against internal and cross government policies. 
  • Maintain full audit trail of transactions and assit with internal and external audit queries. 
  • Identify issues around data reliability and accuracy and undertake specific activities to improve robustness and accessibility of data. 
  • Use Power Bi and Power Pivots to improve the efficiency and insights of financial MI. 

Essential Criteria 

  • Experience of working in a finance team with a strong understanding of financial reporting, analysis, and financial reconciliations (LEAD) 
  • Sound understanding of resource accounting, budgeting, and forecasting.   
  • Able to deal with stakeholders at all levels, (internal and external) and work proactively to offer advice and resolve issues and queries.  
  • Able to prioritise and work accurately under pressure.  
  • Detail conscious and numerate, with strong experience of working with excel and finance systems. 

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of using SUN systems 
  • Experience of using Power Bi/Pivots
