Job summary

We have already made significant progress through the establishment of the Government Commercial Organisation (GCO), our single employer of senior commercial talent across government. This role will sit within the GCO, but based in our Government Property Agency commercial team delivering departmental objectives.
Job description
The successful candidates will be expected to:
- Manage the strategic relationship with suppliers and internal and external customers while building collaboration within and across organisational boundaries.
- Support the effective management of key Workplace Services contracts.
- Build trusting and effective working relationships with a wide range of GPA colleagues and government wide stakeholders including Crown Commercial Service, Cabinet Office and strategic suppliers.
- Build commercial capability within our workforce and ensure all GPA colleagues have an appropriate level of Commercial skills required to do their role.
- Work with colleagues to enable GPA to meet its strategic objectives to promote growth, transform the Civil Service, contribute to Net Zero and deliver better value.
- As and when required, the development and management of sourcing activities linked to the Workplace Services Commercial Pipeline to meet organisation goals while minimising risk.
Person specification
- Develop collaborative relationships with suppliers, clients, and other key stakeholders with a principal objective of achieving client satisfaction, optimal cost and performance.
- Develop a detailed understanding of contractual arrangements, commercial and contractual issues, and work closely with stakeholders to drive resolution.
- Ensure that Workplace Services contracts are managed within contract spend thresholds.
- Build on capability and capacity of contract managers through improving existing processes & delivering training.
- Lead the forward pipeline of commercial activity within your service line, ensuring appropriate engagement and effective collaboration across the business.
- Provide commercial advice and mentorship to stakeholders, some of whom will be senior members to the GPA.
- Be accountable to the Head of Workplace Services for any commercial activity you undertake.
Technical skills
We’ll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:
- Commercial Focus: Ability to define a commercial outcome from conception to delivery, ability to articulate the benefits, opportunities & risks.
- Resilient: The ability to challenge senior stakeholder decisions, work under pressure, and help the team to deal with setbacks.
- Builds Relationships: Experience building and influencing relationships with a variety of stakeholders with different backgrounds, perspectives and drivers, in a fast-moving, commercially focused environment.
- Coaching Manager: Motivates and influences positive change, drives innovation and best practice. Experience in leading and developing others; the ability to upskill and mentor to help deliver first class commercial outcomes.
- Contract and Supply Management: At a delivery level, holds both suppliers and customers accountable for living up to their contractual commitments. Resolves disputes effectively and efficiently.

Your application will be reviewed by a panel and should you be successful at sift we will invite you to attend a Virtual commercial Assessment and Development Centre (VADC). The panel will review results of the VADC and determine which candidates will go through to a subsequent final panel interview.
