Job summary
We have an outstanding opportunity for a Defence industry expert to inform decision making at the most senior levels inside the Ministry of Defence (MOD).
Drawing on your depth of procurement and policy experience, you will play an important role tactfully providing specialist advice and guidance to the Secretary of State for Defence, other Ministers and the Permanent Secretary on acquisition, capability and export issues. Your independent analysis and invaluable insight will shape their decision making ahead of key capability investment decisions, and you will be expected to assess and challenge impacted strategies and frameworks.
The role will be a fixed-term appointment for 12 months, with an option to extend.
The successful candidate must hold, or be prepared to apply for, UK Developed Vetting security level.

Key responsibilities will include:
- Provide coherent, strategic advice at Secretary of State level
- Analyse, assess and judge key trends in defence technology and the global defence industry
- C-suite, complex stakeholder management
- Collaboration across defence industry attending events and briefings to understand capability and technology trends
- Oversees the provision of Ministerial advice on a portfolio of projects.
Person specification
Within your CV and personal statement, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate their experience and skills against the following essential criteria:
- Ability to command credibility with senior politicians and officials, and build deep collaborative partnerships,
- Evidence of deep knowledge and expertise in UK and international industrial defence capability,
- Evidence of profile as a thought leader (possibly through publications or public events),
- Accomplished authority in top scale defence procurement issues and policy advice,
- Examples of sharp minded analysis and balanced assessments of complex defence data,
- Experience with multiple multi £bn multi year projects,
- Collaborative and engaging leadership reflecting MOD core values,
- Success in working within a political and commercial environment, illustrating good judgement, emotional intelligence and diplomacy.
