Job summary

The Government Actuary’s Department (GAD) is a non-ministerial government department that provides actuarial advice to other government departments and organisations in the public sector in the UK and around the world. Our mission is to support effective decision-making and robust reporting within government as the first-choice provider of actuarial and specialist analysis, advice and assurance.

Job description

The finance team within GAD is small, but it has a broad and varied remit. An opportunity has arisen for a fixed term role within the Accounts Receivable team.

The candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in a broad range of accounts receivable activities in a commercial organisation operating within government.

Person specification

  1. Support the receivables manager at GAD to achieve a smooth-running client invoicing process.
  2. Ensure that invoices are raised accurately, on time and in line with requests from the client facing teams.
  3. Manage the debt chasing process and ensure this is undertaken in line with GAD’s working capital target.
  4. Provide business support and assistance to GAD’s client facing teams, including the provision of requests for project information, and the production of Excel based weekly reports.
  5. Respond to queries from a range of stakeholders including clients, GAD internal facing teams and auditors.
  6. Regularly review and update guidance and policies in relation to invoicing and debt management.
  7. Provide cover and support for other finance team members to ensure continuity of transaction processes within finance.

  • Working towards or holding an AAT level 3 qualification and or MCICM or equivalent. (Desirable)
  • Proficient in Microsoft office skills with intermediate level excel, ability to format properly, use formulas and create graphs and pivot tables. (assessed via short test at interview)
