Job description

At Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), we are empowering our people to make positive change and are looking for a skilled Lead Systems Engineer to help guide the way. As part of our new and expanding Land Certification Authority Team (LCAT), with our support, you will help us find new and better ways of working. We are offering the opportunity for you to join this novel team, to support the creation of LCAT within the Land domain. You will provide advice, oversight and certification against standards and assurance to Land Domain primary platform procurements to ensure that equipment provided to the Front-Line Command areas has been rigorously assessed in line with new and emerging Land Safety Regulatory requirements.  

You will be surrounded by highly experienced safety and systems professionals working towards a single certification goal. You will be making a wider difference in the support of the safe by design argument for equipment in Land whilst working across a diverse range of assignments looking at multiple platforms with varying degrees of complexity.

Due to the nature of security requirements, this role is open to sole UK nationals only. Please note, there may be regular domestic travel to other MOD and industry UK sites and the potential for international travel.

Responsibilities

  • Advise the Head of LCAT on the compliance of Land Systems certification cases and, where required, provides technical recommendations
  • Lead on the development and upkeep of the Land Systems Certification Defence Standard
  • Lead on the development and upkeep of the Land Systems Certification processes
  • Provide technical leadership related to own specialist area to solve complex problems with innovative solutions to support improved performance and enhanced capability
  • Provide governance, assurance and advice on complex projects and portfolios in own area of expertise to guide and influence senior leaders, scientists and decision makers
  • Conduct thorough assessments on Land System certification submissions

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • You will hold a relevant Level 6 (or higher) qualification or demonstrate the equivalent experience
  • You will hold Chartered or Incorporated status, or be able to demonstrate the equivalent knowledge, skills and experience
  • Experience of providing technical advice at a senior level and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes in multidisciplinary projects
  • Wide ranging depth and breadth of technical experience in own specialism with knowledge and application of Systems Engineering approaches
