Job summary
A opportunity has arisen to recruit a number of Vehicle Mechanics to inspect and deliver Equipment Support to an Operational Front-Line Command Unit. Details of the job can be found within the Job Description.
Strategic Command is going through a significant transformation programme which aims to improve the way the Command conducts its business and delivers for Defence and the nation. As a consequence of this, all posts within Strategic Command Headquarters and in time the wider organisation, are/will be subject to review and potential changes as we continuously improve across the period of the transformation programme. These changes may be minor or could be more substantive and will generate new opportunities. Throughout, the Commands transformation programme is committed to following the MODs framework on managing and supporting people through the change process and places an emphasis on early and open consultation and engagement with the Commands personnel and Trade Unions.
This positions are advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
2. Competent conducting mechanical and vehicle electrical work. Limited welding, limited soldering, limited sheet metal work, brush painting and local manufacture work.
3. Comply with current manual inspection and repair standards.
4. Driving tasks, including movement of vehicles within the camp. Road tests and brake tests on designated areas.
5. Completion of documentation in accordance with the utilised Management Information System.
6. Collection and return of spares and tools from the stores department.
7. Maintain and utilise your own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
8. Maintain a clean and safe working environment, complying with SHEP policies.
9. Comply with Staff regulations.
10. Carryout before use inspections of all lifting tackle, hoists, abrasive wheels and other equipment to ensure that they are safe and serviceable.
11. Utilise computer diagnostics tools.
12. All other tasks commensurate of role as directed by line management.
Person specification
Candidates wishing to apply need to hold an NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Mechanics and Maintenance or equivalent.
Ideally four or more years current experience working in vehicle maintenance and repair. (A minimum of two years is required to be considered).
A valid driving licence for category B and B+E are essential; category C, C1, C+E are desirable.
Previous experience of inspection and repair of current military vehicles.
