Overview

This is an exciting time at the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG), as we transform how we deliver our statutory services and ensure that we are fit for the future. OPG is an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), responsible for registering lasting powers of attorney and supervising deputies who are appointed by the Court of Protection. Lasting powers of attorney gives people the power to choose who will be their voice and act in their best interests if they lose the ability to make certain decisions for themselves such as health and finances.

Our people are at the heart of delivering these essential services to the public. It’s an exciting time to be joining the People Services function as we have recently launched our People Strategy – OPG’s People Promise which aims to make OPG a better place to work, for everyone.

You will be joining a supportive and friendly team where we focus not just on what we do but how we do it. As a member of the People Services senior leadership team you will be responsible for leading and directing diversity, inclusion, engagement and wellbeing activities as part of OPG’s wider People Strategy.

The role includes the line management of a small team and we would welcome candidates who have strong leadership and stakeholder engagement experience.

Candidates for the post will be assessed on the essential skills and experience demonstrated through a personal statement and assessment.

Job description and Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to: 

  • Delivery: Accountable for the delivery of OPG’s Diversity an Inclusion plan, Wellbeing Offer and People Survey action plan to agreed outcomes and
  • Collaboration and Engagement: Responsible for building and maintaining partnerships and working collaboratively with staff networks, business areas, senior leaders and communication colleagues.
  • Influencing: Represent People Services in internal OPG forums and external MoJ and Civil Service engagement forums. Effectively engage with other government departments, agencies and partner organisations to achieve OPG’s strategic objectives.
  • Innovation: Utilise people data and policy to develop solutions to complex employee issues and
  • People Survey and Insights: Oversee annual people survey and pulse surveys, establishing reporting structures, promoting participation, analysing and sharing results and leading on subsequent action planning. Analyse complex people data and provide robust, relevant evidence and coherent proposals to inform OPG’s people strategy.
  • LeadershipLine manage a small team of fourYou will be responsible for ensuring the wellbeing, development and professional practice of your team members, demonstrating best practice in the way in which you lead your team in an inclusive way. You will be a key part of OPG’s People Services senior leadership

 Essential criteria:

  • Experience of developing and delivering plans with a wide range of stakeholders across complex and wide ranging
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to direct others, initiate action, make decisions and promote inclusive team
  • Effective collaborator, with excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills to engage effectively across the wider business.
  • Excellent organisational and problem solving skills, attention to detail and high levels of discretion when dealing with sensitive

Desirable criteria:

  • CIPD qualified or equivalent experience in a HR

Interview process

Your interview will assess your Behaviours, Strengths and Experience.

At interview, candidates will be required to provide a presentation of up to 5 minutes, the presentation topic will be shared with candidates invited to interview. This presentation will be assessing your Experience. You should also expect strength-based questions and questions relating to the following Civil Service behaviours (Level 3):
