The Met Office is delighted to open our advertising for a number of progressive Industrial Placements, which will commence from July 2024 until July 2025.
What we are offering
Were looking for an exceptional People Professional – Industrial Placement 2024 to help us make a difference to our planet.
As our People Professional – Industrial Placement 2024 you will work a hybrid pattern of homeworking, spending at least one day a week in our Exeter HQ. You can choose to work more frequently in our state-of-the-art office if you’d prefer.

As our People Professional – Industrial Placement 2024, your starting salary will be £25606.00.
Whilst this is a temporary position until July 2025, there is potential for it to develop into an opportunity to join our Graduate Development scheme once you complete your University studies.

Job description
Job Purpose:
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Met Office on a 12-month Year in Industry placement, developing your skills and knowledge and ensuring you gain the most value possible from your experience with us. You will have the opportunity to network with our cohort of Industrial Placement across the Met Office and understand what career opportunities we can offer you after you graduate.
As our People Professional Industrial Placement you will have a passion for people and an opportunity to work with a range of experts in people related practices including employee experience, resourcing, learning & development, people analytics and business partnering.
Following an induction to the breadth of our People Directorate, you will spend 8 months developing your understanding and practical application of people policy and management. Working in our People Services Team focusing on resourcing and employee experience before choosing where you spend your final 4 months. There will be opportunities within our People Development and Reward & Partners teams.
In addition, you will undertake two projects, utilizing your views to for example:
- Develop a life event package and deliver via our People Centre.
- Review/revise our People Professions communications & engagement.
- Identify, develop and deliver a learning intervention.
- Create resources that our ambassadors can use at university careers talks/events or that can be used online as part of our careers website/ recruitment platform.
- Investigate whether creating a cohort of student ambassadors would be beneficial to the Met Office, and if so, how and who.
- Assist in the evaluation of the in-person work experience placements for school-aged students.
