Job summary
Finance is at the heart of decision making in the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and the Risk, Assurance and Fraud team works with other finance teams, and teams across the Department and its Partner Organisations to support DBTs ambitious agenda. The team leads on the production and embedding of DBTs Risk, Assurance and (Counter) Fraud Policies, processes and reporting frameworks.
The team provides advice and support to business areas on compliance and best practice and are key in embedding processes and developing a strong control culture in DBT. The team builds relationships and works in partnership with policy and delivery colleagues as well as other key stakeholders in corporate services and other Departments including HM Treasury, to provide a seamless end-to-end service to customers.
As Risk Manager, you will own the directorate risk reporting process across the department, work with and coordinate the risk leads network, and support the ongoing development of the Risk Management Function throughout DBT. The Risk Manager will support a range of work, including the regular reporting frameworks, the development and delivery of training and guidance on risk management, and development of plans to embed good practice, alongside governance activities undertaken by the team. While the primary focus of the role will be on risk, the Risk Manager will also contribute to other Assurance activities, and will play an active role in developing frameworks and build expertise in the areas across DBT.
The Risk Manager will report to the Risk Lead and will be responsible for supporting the delivery of the routine risk reporting to our committee structure, and will provide advice and support to relevant stakeholders, and ensuring that strict quality standards are applied across all workstreams. Job description
The Risk Manager will take responsibility for the regular strategic risk reporting to the DBT governance committees and conduct periodic assessment, analysis and assurance of Directorate risk returns within DBT. This analysis will provide informed and insightful narrative for board briefings and reports and will form the baseline for evidence-based challenge and support to Directors.
With the team, the Risk Manager will provide risk input into corporate requests such as the quarterly Outcome Delivery Plan Performance and Risk Plan and, with the wider team, lead on Directorate risk feedback sessions to provide a challenge function to develop and improve risk practise across DBT, and to provide expert input to the Assurance statement process.
The Risk Manager will assist in the development of plans to further develop risk management, assurance and counter fraud policies and practices across DBT, including planned risk lead training and development pathways and a risk and assurance reporting system. Scan and understand industry best practice, exploring opportunities to further build risk, assurance and fraud maturity within DBT.

- They will be a proficient facilitator of multidisciplinary groups with excellent problem-solving skills.
- They will be able to effectively options appraise and identify the most appropriate route forward.
- They will possess excellent drafting and communication skills.
- The successful applicant will have effective presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex information to those from outside the team and be able to use a range of IT equipment and software to analyse information and produce intelligent and engaging reports.

Interviews for this vacancy will be conducted virtually. We will, however, consider in-person interviews by exception.
