Ever wanted to manage and run your own gymnasium? Put your physical training qualifications to good use? Then this is your chance! The Defence Animal Training Regiment (DATR) is looking to recruit a motivated, enthusiastic individual into our Senior Instructional Officer Physical Training Instructor role. You will have the opportunity to manage and run your own gymnasium and ensure that over 100 Military personnel remain fit and maintain the required standards to operate in todays Armed Forces. You will also be responsible for ensuring the facilities are safe to use for all DATR employees. You will also be responsible for assisting, planning and delivering Unit Adventurous Training within the UK and Overseas. Personal Fitness and physical robustness is extremely important for this role. |
You can make a real difference to Defence by providing physical training sessions for newly trained soldiers undertaking their Initial Trade Training and continue their physical journey to allow them to meet the required standards before they reach the Field Army. You will also have the opportunity to tailor and create various physical training sessions and assist the physio-therapists in rehabilitation for injured service personnel.

Job description
The Defence Animal Training Regiment is looking to recruit a motivated, enthusiastic Physical Training Instructor (PTI).
The key elements of the role include;
You will be responsible for ensuring all the military personnel remain fit to fight and you will do this by designing, delivering and maintaining a fitness programme throughout the year, by monitoring and overseeing and reporting on all levels of fitness for service personnel.
Organising, delivering and monitoring physical training to some 130 military personnel at the DATR in accordance with single service fitness standards.
Give advice and guidance on planning adventure training policy.
Accountability for the all the articles and equipment aligned to the gymnasium, including the serviceability and safety of them.
Be first aid at work trained to deal with any incidents in and around the gymnasium.
Ensure the DATR conforms to physical development policies and audits.
Person specification
You will:
- Conduct training needs analysis with regards to all matters physical training.
- Carry out risk assessments of all physical training facilities and equipment.
- Develop a training programme to ensure compliance with annual physical training targets.
- Liaise with Unit facilities manager with reference to equipment and maintenance of the gymnasium complex.
- Own and update gymnasium directives when required.
- Attend sports board and adventure training meetings where necessary.
The successful candidate must have relevant experience (ideally 2 years) and hold a recognised physical training qualification which would permit the candidate to undertake a physical training session unsupervised.
Examples being:
Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing.
Level 2 Diploma in Instructing Exercise and Fitness.
Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training.
A formal military all arms Physical Training Instructor qualification.
Any other form of fitness instruction, personal training or gym instructing will also be considered.
