The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is the department for economic growth. We work with business partners across the country to support investment, growth, and create jobs and opportunities. In our engagement, we strive to understand businesses’ needs for the international trading environment and help unlock post-Brexit freedoms.

The Team

The Global Supply Chains and Economic Security Directorate plays a vital role in the UK Government’s approach to ensuring the security of the UK’s critical imports. The Directorate leads on ensuring resilience in critical supply-chains, assessing vulnerabilities, consulting with key stakeholders, and developing policies to secure resilience.

We do this by:

  • Strengthening our understanding and monitoring of the UK’s critical supply chains
  • Designing policies and guiding interventions to strengthen the long-term resilience of global supply chains.
  • Creating and supporting international efforts to strengthen the resilience of critical supply chains.

The Strategy and Policy team, within the Global Supply Chains and Economic Security Directorate, develop policies and interventions that guide government action to strengthen the resilience of the supply chains that are critical to the UK’s economic growth and national security. This role will lead the Strategy and Policy team’s stakeholder engagement following the publication of the UK’s first Critical Imports and Supply Chains Strategy.

As part of our commitments in the Strategy, we will be expanding collaboration between government, business, and academia to safeguard the most critical supply chains now and in the future.

You will be working with businesses, trade associations, academics, and other government departments on a range of cross-cutting policy areas. You will develop a comprehensive programme of business and academia engagement on supply chains to build intelligence on supply chain resilience and inform policy development.

  • Work closely with businesses to build intelligence on supply chains issues.
  • Identify and establish links with other external supply chain experts, including academia and think tanks.
