Job description
This is an exciting opportunity in the Public Appointments Team in the Department for Transport (DfT) as it expands and centralises management of most of the Public Appointments the Department is responsible for, and increases outreach and engagement activities with current appointees and potential applicants.
You can expect to have a high level of engagement with our established sponsor and shareholder teams in the department, as well as Ministers Private Offices and senior officials such as Board Members and Chairs. Your role will be essential in advising our Ministers on the public appointments covered by the department, and in ensuring the team excels in attracting talent and supporting potential candidates.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead on Diversity in Public Appointments, including implementing the strategy, secretariat to the Diversity Engagement Group and supporting the Champion.
- Lead on events, including managing networking events and coordinating attendance at relevant events.
- Lead on developing the talent pipeline.
- Lead on engagement and communications, including online presence, social media and newsletters.

About you:
To be successful in the role you will need to have communication skills, with the ability to adapt your delivery to suit a wide variety of audiences, maximising both impact and understanding. We are also looking for someone with confidence in their ability to come in and make a real impact within our team where you will lead from the front and drive those around you to achieve the same shared objectives. Also, you will have excellent interpersonal skills which you will use to negotiate and influence others to get things done. You will have strong stakeholder management skills across the business to continually improve the way in which appointments are handled and to drive forward the Governments ambitions on diversity.
Additional Information:
A minimum 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
You may occasionally be required to travel to other DfT offices for team meetings or when we host events in any of our locations. Events may be held in the evening and an overnight stay may be required.

Pre-employment Checking
