Located Segensworth Road, Titchfield, Fareham, Hampshire, PO15 5RR.  You will need to be located near the office in Fareham. In this role you will be required to have a full time presence on site.

Our Digital Services and Technology (DST) Directorate develops and operates much of the technology and services that Office for National Statistics (ONS) uses to deliver. Demand for data and statistics are increasing and DST has a critical role in enabling the business to meet these demands. 

Job description

In this role, as an IT Service Manager, you will be experienced in leading and managing a team to deliver high profile services within the ONS. You will be responsible for the continuous service improvement of the services aligned to your area including managing key internal stakeholders and supplier engagement to ensure the optimum service is delivered.

Working closely with your team and other service managers you will be empowered to be creative whilst delivering high quality service and deliverables where stakeholder management is key. You will need to be both innovative and have the passion to lead these changes from the front.

Who are we looking for?

As a service manager you will:

  • Lead and manage a multi-skilled team deployed across various projects and activities.
  • Bring into service, operating, supporting, performance monitoring, continually improving and decommissioning Infrastructure services, products and platforms to serve a variety of user needs.

For the services, products and platforms supported:

  • Manage incidents, requests, changes and problems -Drive continuous improvement activities
  • Active participation in wider communities of practice, identifying and sharing best practice.
  • Share knowledge of tools and techniques, collaborating to improve team capability.
  • Maintain consistency between development and production environments.
  • Challenge existing processes to build agile and flexible platforms, services and products.
  • Influences internal and external stakeholders and manages relationships effectively to build long-term strategic relationships.

 Main responsibilities are:

  • Responsible for making sure that business relations within the organisation are managed to enable delivery of ICT services
  • Lead and direct teams to make sure that service level agreements (SLAs) and operational level agreements (OLAs) are in place with both external and internal teams
  • Liaise with all other IT service functions to make sure that services are maintained
  • Manage the day to day delivery of the services
  • Plan and may schedule the testing and deployment of releases
  • Deliver new functionality required by the business while protecting the integrity of existing services
  • Make sure that service asset and configuration items are properly controlled, and that accurate and reliable information about these assets is available when needed

Person specification

Essential Skills Criteria:

  • Takes ownership of issues that occur to provide the best service for the end user.
  • Leverages their data analytics skills to improve service. Collects information and evidence, identifies trends, problems and opportunities, and makes recommendations that align with strategic business objectives to improve service.
  • Able to communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong team leader; experience of coaching and leading teams.
  • Experience of identifying and challenging organisational processes and questioning those processes and improving existing ways of working.
  • Experience of leading a continual planning process to deliver BAU & project related activities. Able to identify dependencies in plans across services and coordinate delivery.

Assessment at application stage will be based on your work history, skills, experience and personal statement. Your application should be tailored to demonstrate any skills, knowledge and experience that are relevant to the content of the role.

Your personal statement should be no longer than 1250 words. You should use this space to provide evidence for each essential and technical criteria within the person specification. As the criteria are scored, we would recommend that you give clear examples for each including the impact of your actions and set them out using the STAR acronym (Situation, Task, Action, Result).

Success Profiles Behaviour examples are not required at this stage.
