Do you want to make a difference in to the public health of the UK? Join our division that supports the main scientific campuses of UK Health Security Agency. You will be responsible for ensuring that our customers have the materials they need for their vital laboratory work and that their waste is handled safely. You will be part of a team that works with a variety of laboratories, such as vaccine task force, reference laboratories, and food, water & environmental laboratories.

Join our Media Services Porton team and manage the staff and facilities in the Media Production area. You will be involved in the production of microbiological growth media, the customer relations, and the ordering of media components. You will also support the Head of Media and supervise the supply of clean sterile glassware when needed. You will work with a variety of customers and projects

Job description

Responsibilities section:

The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:

  • Lead in the planning and organisation of day-to-day production schedule
  • To train and supervise production and other staff in the safe operation and use of production equipment and undertake/carry out annual performance review of all staff within Unit.
  • As a fully trained risk assessor to conduct risk assessments on all activities, implementing corrective actions as required, lead on complaints for business risk requirements.
  • To maintain and update customer / supplier contact details, contact customers and suppliers via email, Microsoft Teams or telephone/Skype
  • To manage the invoice / consumables order filing system and to assist management staff / work colleagues / customers / visitors with administrative enquiries
  • To monitor customer orders by arranging suitable schedules; checking that there are no obvious omissions from weekly or monthly media orders
  • To process media orders and generate media re-charges and invoices
  • Manage staff and the facilities of the section to provide a high level of customer focus and output, to meet the needs and requirements of the Unit’s customers in a timely and efficient manner

Person specification

Essential Criteria:

It is important through your application and Statement of Suitability of 1200 words that you give evidence and examples of proven experience of each of the following criteria:

Essential

  • Previous Production and supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of good manufacturing practice
  • Experience of customer service

 Desirable

  • Knowledge of Oracle ordering systems or similar
  • Experience of autoclave operation and use
  • Experience of working closely with engineering staff and contractors
  • Experience of several Microsoft 365 applications

STAGE 1 – APPLICATION & SIFT: 

You will be required to complete an application form. This will be assessed in line with the advertised essential criteria – please do provide evidence of how you meet this. 

If you are successful at this stage, you will progress to an interview.

STAGE 2 – INTERVIEW 

This competition will involve an interview by video. 

As part of the process, candidates will be invited to interview which will involve an in-depth discussion of your previous experience and professional competence in relation to the criteria set out in the Person Specification. 

Your Statement of Suitability should outline your skills, experience, and achievements, providing evidence of your suitability for the role, with reference to the essential criteria (outlined in the person specification section).

You will also be asked to provide information within the ‘Employer/ Activity history’ section of the application form. This is equivalent to the information you would provide on a CV, setting out your career history.
