Job summary
A Network Engineer is responsible for the design and implementation of networking services according to the departmental policy and Home Office strategy.
These roles will focus on network design and the delivery of new network demand prior to handover into operations. It is an exciting time to join the network engineering team. You will be exposed to a mix of complex large-scale projects and have the opportunity to work across our WAN, LAN, Data Centre and firewall environments. The team encourages and promotes knowledge sharing and mentoring for service improvements and professional development.

Job description
Your main day to day responsibilities will be:
- Responsible for designing, implementing, administrating and supporting network services.
- Resolving network issues impacting Home Office users, ensuring that technical solutions continue to meet business requirements.
- Responding to incident reports, ensuring relevant prioritisation and detail to allow for effective investigation.
- Identifying the correct procedures and appropriate channels for resolution and monitor resolution activities and progress updates to users.
- Investigating faults in networks, and advising on the implementation of appropriate solutions and preventative measures.
- Contributing to solutions designs, based on your understanding of the networking integrations points in the end to end solution, making sure that the recommended solution meets the functional and non-functional requirements, as well as Home Office standards.
You will also be expected to carry out the following day to day activities:
- Act as an interface between the network team, infrastructure, and platform and applications teams.
- Work in cooperation with testing to ensure the quality of the network services.
- Update and maintain technical documentation.
- Participate in design reviews and walk-throughs to communicate network designs.

Essential Skills
Youll have a demonstrable passion for Network Engineering, with the following skills or some experience in:
- Networking concepts, switching, routing, firewalling and load balancing
- Maintaining focus on the whole life cycle of service delivery; from design, development, and delivery through to operations.
- Dissecting a problem into its component parts to identify and diagnose root causes, allowing for problem resolution ·
- Demonstrating the ability to build effective partnerships with diverse teams across multiple locations and technologies ·
- Presenting verbal and written information clearly and accurately in language which meets the needs of the user and can adapt to stakeholders’ reactions with flexibility
