This Army Welfare Service (AWS) Business Support Work post offers the opportunity to work in a role that supports the wellbeing of soldiers and their families. AWS is the Army’s professional welfare provider, delivering a comprehensive and confidential welfare service responsive to the needs of individuals and families and the Chain of Command. AWS delivers Personal Support (PS) providing confidential and professional specialist welfare, and Community Support (CS) providing youth and community projects, and activities for children and young people. These delivery pillars are supported in delivering the service by the AWS Business Support team.

Job description

The BSW is responsible to the Deputy Area Welfare Support Officer (DAWSO) for providing an effective and competent business support service for all AWS staff within the Worthy Down Team. The post holder will carry out a broad range of administrative duties.
Army Welfare Service posts roles are currently subject to a welfare review and may be subject to change pending the outcome of the review.

Person specification

This role is suited to someone who has a high level of organisational, administrative and IT skills and enjoys being part of a support team. You will play a significant part in helping the AWS specialist welfare teams to deliver the AWS service through the provision of administrative support across the team area of responsibility.
Key Responsibilities are:

1. Provide an effective and competent business support service to for all AWS activities within the team’s area of responsibility, carrying out all general administrative duties to support team members in the delivery of the AWS service.

2. Ensure the team business support office meets and maintains standards in accordance with professional policy and practice standards.

3. Be responsible for ModNet user management ensuring transfer of data between the technical team and operational systems as required.

4. Be the team point of contact for SharePoint, liaising with relevant HQ staff regarding updates and changes.

5. Act as local team administrator for Joint Army & Navy Information System (JANIS), receiving service user calls where relevant and recording written messages, processing forms and re-directing calls where appropriate.

6. Co-ordinate Joint Army Nave Information System (JANIS) case-file administration inputting casework data as directed, undertaking case file transfer actions and distribute Support/Closure letters as appropriate.

7. Provide support to the local Personal Support staff in handling of case-file audits and destructions.

8. Provide support to the local Community Support staff in handling of file archives.

9. Assist where required, in the recording of Disclosure & Barring Service checks in consultation with the DAWSO.

10. Collate and consolidate monthly and quarterly statistics for all aspects of AWS business as requested by Area offices and HQ and as directed by the Deputy Area Welfare Support Officer.

11. Act as the main point contact to facilitate transport and travel booking requests, including the day to day administration of local AWS vehicles.

12. Act as team point of contact for all team Authorised Demander (AD) and Local Security Officer (LSO) issues.

13. Work in accordance with appropriate MOD policies and procedures, AWS Standard Operating Instructions (SOI) and within the Army Code of Confidentiality.

14. Undertake other duties within the terms and conditions appropriate to the grade and role as directed by the Line Manager.
