Job summary
The Department for Business and Trade is the department for economic growth. We support businesses to invest, grow and export, creating jobs and opportunities across the country. DBT also has overall responsibility for developing, coordinating, and delivering a new trade and investment policy for the UK.
Location
The roles can be based in any of DBTs core locations; London, Darlington, Salford, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham. Pay scales will depend on whether you are based in London or nationally, and you may occasionally be required to travel to other locations.
The Team
The People Analytics and Insights Team sits within the Human Resources (HR) Directorate and has a key role for providing information on our workforce. We are responsible for maintaining, reporting, and analysing data related to over 7500 staff across the globe. The team works closely with directorates across the department and with the analysis, finance, and digital professions.
DBT are advertising for two roles in the People Analytics and Insights team: 1 X People Data Account Manager and 1 X People Data Officer. Both roles can be used as a gateway into a future career path within the Civil Service HR profession.
People Data Account Manager
- As the People Data Account Manager, you will be responsible for supporting several Director led teams across DBT to improve and maintain the quality of employee data held on official HR systems.
- Your role is critical in ensuring DBT has good quality information about the workforce. Without you, budget management and forecasting, workforce planning and data-driven decision making is almost impossible so if youre looking for a challenging but rewarding role working with people data, read on.
People Data Officer
- As the People Data Officer, you will support internal and external reporting on a variety of HR related topics.
- The role will be fast-paced and allow the successful candidate to develop an in-depth knowledge of HR data reporting and stakeholder management skills as well as offer a broad insight into how HR operates in Government.
Job description
The roles will use a combination of regular meetings with colleagues and shared mailbox management to deliver their priorities, as outlined below. Both roles will also support in answering ad hoc queries such as requests made under the Freedom of Information Act and Parliamentary Questions.
The Data Account Manager priorities will look like
- Work directly with Business Managers, HR and Finance Business Partners to validate the accuracy of data held within the HR systems and help them to correct errors via self-service. Such as raising of Service Requests or co-ordinate bulk changes as appropriate.
- Producing and analysing organisational data to identify issues and trends and updating organisational structure charts.
- Help improve the capability of line managers and individuals in using HR system self-service systems.
- Support colleagues in driving engagement and leadership in corporate compliance across DBT
- Act as secretariat to monthly workforce planning meetings with senior colleagues, supporting the implementation of decisions made into HR systems.
The People Data Officer priorities will look like:
- Support the production and presentation of the regular People Data Dashboards covering workforce and people-based analytics reporting to help the Department fully understand its workforce and diversity position.
- Deliver on the statutory and cross government reporting.
- Interest in learning how to use new applications and technology to aid HR analysis and reporting
- Manage ad hoc people data queries from across the organisation, making use of consistent and accurate base data.
- Support People Analytics Team to meet their People Data Objectives for DBT.
Hybrid working
The role will be based in either Darlington, London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Salford, Birmingham. You will be asked to express a location preference during the application process.
Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.
Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.
Most DBT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average.
If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.
Appointments will be made to candidates in merit order based on location preferences.

Essential Criteria

Selection process details
Interviews for this vacancy will be conducted virtually. We will, however, consider in-person interviews by exception.
