Job summary

Forestry England is an agency of Forestry Commission and manages the Public Forest Estate, which is the largest single resource of woodlands and forests in England.

The Central District manages 30,000ha of the Public Forest Estate within a triangle formed by Liverpool, Hull and Milton Keynes. We comprise of 150 members of staff covering a broad range of roles delivering diverse business functions, including sustainable forest management, timber harvesting, recreation, events management, and management of our visitor centres.

The role is part of the Business Support team. As a function we provide administrative and financial support across the district.

Job description

As part of the Business Support team, you will provide specialist administrative services to managers and function leads to help effectively achieve the business objectives.

Responsibilities

Duties to include but not limited to:

  • Finance administration, including entry to the sales and purchase ledgers, processing cash account, audit checks of company credit cards and raising journals, in line with policy and guidance.
  • Provide administrative and finance support to the business functions and deal with enquiries from the public, ensuring correspondence is dealt with in a professional and in a timely manner.
  • Provide contract management support including preparation of documentation, monitoring, recording of financial transactions and health and safety compliance.
  • Monitoring the various Business Support mailboxes, ensuring correspondence is dealt with in a professional and timely manner.
  • Ad hoc projects, tasks and general office duties as required.

Professional and Technical Expertise

Essential:

  • A sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
  • Proof reading and editing of documents and data
  • Experience of handling numerical data
  • Knowledge/use of finance packages – purchase ledger/sales ledger/cash account etc

Desirable:

  • Experience of contract administration
  • AAT foundation certificate level 2 or similar
  • Working knowledge around CIS and VAT
