Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join MOD Head Office team and Operational Finance Team. Would you like to carry out compliance, audit and assurance activities in a varied, diverse and dynamic environment where no two assignments are the same?

We are looking for a bright, motivated self-starter to join the Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) Assurance team based in Piccadilly Gate in the centre of Manchester. GFE is equipment loaned by MOD to Defence Contractors to support the delivery of equipment to UK Armed Forces and this post will play an important part in providing assurance that appropriate controls and stewardship of MOD assets are in place under Defence Contracts Terms and Conditions. The MOD has around 300 contractors who have MOD assets and these can range from the UK’s Strategic Defence contractors to the smaller niche suppliers. The range and scale are vast and the assets have an approximate value of £5.5bn. The team usually undertake fieldwork on site at the Contractors’ premises so the post will involve frequent travel throughout the UK usally lasting between 3 and 5 days. MOD adopts hybrid working and when not undertaking audit at the Contractor’s premises, you will be expected to be in the office at least 2-3 days per week.

This post will involve undertaking assurance and compliance audits of Defence Contractors, testing the controls put in place to manage Government Furnished Equipment (GFE).

These position are advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

Reporting to a Senior Auditor (C2) you will be contributing to the delivery of the annual GFE assurance programme for MOD. You will enjoy a considerable autonomy and responsibility for the delivery of audit reports, working individually or as part of a small team. In doing so you will have wide exposure to senior departmental and industry management as well as its processes, structures and activities.

Person specification

Management
You will be responsible to deliver programme of allocated audits in the most cost effective way including management of your own time and other resources to conduct initial review of evidence of all audit activity within allocated contractor accounts. This will included the leading of a small team of auditors on occasion.
To respond to queries raised by Audit Committees for accounts held within your team in a timely manner and as a matter of priority

Programme Planning
You will undertake an annual risk analysis of your allocated contractors as well as ongoing data analysis to inform the annual audit programme.  

Programme Delivery
Deliver allocated audit assignments as an Audit Leader or Team Member in accordance with clearly set out procedures and quality standards to time and quality with the most efficient resource utilisation.  

Stakeholders
You will engage with all stakeholders develop productive working relationships which will inform the teams planning, fieldwork and reporting. This engagement will be before, during and after assignments. The role involves interaction with staff at all levels of the organisation both in Industry and within MOD.  
Delivering assurance work to time cost and quality that adds value to the operation of the organisation. There are opportunities to make a difference in one of the largest organisations in government.

Essential Skills

  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, paying attention to detail and be able to summarise and present information concisely.
  • Full UK driving license.

 Desirable skills

  • Previous experience working in a compliance, audit and assurance environment.
  • Skilled at using Microsoft products (Excel and Word) and generally proficient with IT Tools.
