The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is a part of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in-service support, and disposal of the UK’s nuclear submarines. Job description

It’s a busy and exciting time here at the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA), and we’re seeking a Commercial Assistant to support our Devonport Infrastructure Programme team at HMNB Devonport.  The Devonport Infrastructure Programme’s overarching outcome is the delivery of integrated safe and functional waterfront capabilities in Devonport which meet the requirements of the Submarine Support Management Programme, whilst also supporting submarine decommissioning, defuel and disposal. This requires a programme which is ‘designed for schedule’, where on time delivery becomes the primary focus for delivery without compromising on safety.

We are currently seeking entry level Commercial Assistants via one of two routes: 

  1. Joining our new internal Structured Learning Programme

or

     2. Enrolment on a formal apprenticeship scheme

Both routes will provide candidates with:

As well as the support of a dedicated Development Officer who will help you to shape your career, the Structured Learning Programme which will commence in January 2024, and provides many opportunities for training and development including an apprenticeship for those eligible. We are looking for ambitious individuals, who are looking to build a full range of commercial skills and embark on an exciting career within SDA.

In addition to enjoying a meaningful role within the Civil Service you will be supported to attain relevant Commercial certifications and qualifications.

The apprenticeship route entry requirements:

  • UK National and residency requirement of 3 years in UK;
  • Must have the right to work in England and spend at least 50% of working hours in England;
  • Must not be undertaking another Apprenticeship or any DfE funded FE/HE programme;
  • Must hold Level 2 English and Maths GCSE (or equivalent) certificates at A*- C/9 – 4.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting contract management and sourcing activities including attendance at contract review meetings
  • Arranging and administering tenders
  • Responding to requests for information
  • Arranging meetings, facilities, and travel
  • Administration and management of contract files and records
  • Supporting audit and assurance of commercial policies and approvals
  • Collating, presenting and maintenance of management information
  • Processing of purchase orders on an internal Oracle based system

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Office and ability to use IT systems and programme
  • Previous experience of working as part of a team

 

You will also need to be able to demonstrate and provide evidence of the below qualifications.

  • Level 2 English and Maths GCSE grades 4 – 9 (A* to C), or equivalent

 

If not already held, successful candidates will be supported to undertake the required training below.

  • Chartered Institute of Purchasing Supply (CIPS) level 4/or equivalent within one year of appointment.
  • MOD Practitioner Level Accreditation Panel assessment when agreed by line management.
