Navy Command Headquarters is the nerve centre of the Naval Service. It supports operations around the globe and provides the ships, people, aircraft and equipment to deliver the UKs defence policy. Civil Servants and Armed Forces personnel work together in a wealth of interesting and challenging jobs in different disciplines.
Navy Commercial has a diverse portfolio of requirements to support the Royal Navy, with over £3bn of commercial activity including major acquisition programmes, day to day procurement, contract management, and market engagement. The portfolio is expanding with greater technical requirements, innovation and R&D, Development of Artificial Intelligence software, Autonomous Under Water vehicles,
and more.
We are also being asked to support the HQ in their transformation into a more intelligent customer, getting involved in the requirements that are managed by other partner organisations.
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with either transferable skills or proven commercial experience to join us and help make a real difference in Defence as we expand our team to meet growing demands.

Job description
We are recruiting eight posts across our all areas of commercial operations, as detailed below.
The post holders will actively engage in liaising with stakeholders and helping them to achieve the best possible value for money, taking on responsibility in a supportive environment for their own caseload and work to deliver the needs of the Navy.
The posts are challenging, require pro-active and innovative thinking, resilience, good communications at all levels and grades within the civilian and military hierarchy, and an outward enthusiastic approach to reach the right conclusion.
Successful candidates will need to be willing to undergo fully funded Level 4 CIPS training as part of the role.
Person specification
We require flexible and innovative staff to meet the challenges ahead as well as managing essential legacy work. You will need to be proactive and ready to take on the scope of work covered by Navy Commercial.
Across the eight roles offered the work includes:
Pre-Sourcing activity to shape and steer the route to market for goods and/or services in the early stages of development helping our customers in the Navy develop plans from the outset.
Sourcing goods and services to meet the Commands requirements often working in an integrated project team to deliver complex requirements through flexible, fast paced procurements in exciting and innovative areas
Contract Management of existing contracts to ensure service delivery and value for money meeting the operational needs of the Navy and working closely with contractors and customers
Individuals are supported to develop and enhance their skills in one or more of these areas as part of a team of 75 staff.
Across all of our roles we expect our team to take proactive steps to raise Commercial Awareness and provide advice / guidance to non-commercial staff on policy, procedures and the law.

The advertised roles will be offered on a hybrid working basis with NCHQ Portsmouth as the MOD base location.
Staff are able to work remotely/flexibly in accordance with the needs of the business.
Allowances
A Market Skills Allowance of £1500 per annum is currently payable on successfully completing the licencing board and attaining CIPS Level 4
The post does not offer relocation expenses (move of home, excess fares or temporary transfer). Non Standard move applicants will be eligible for the full package, subject to eligibility.
