Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) are hiring!
We are seeking an experienced Safety and Risk Communications Officer to join our Enablement Group. This is a full- time opportunity on a permanent basis.
The roles will be based in 10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf London, E14 4PU with occasional travel to our South Mimms site or other locations. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas. We are currently implementing a flexible, hybrid way of working, with a minimum of 4 days per month working on site to enable the collaboration and contact with partners and stakeholders needed to deliver MHRA business. Attendance on site is driven by business needs so depending on the nature of the role, this can flex up to 8 days a month, with the remainder of time worked either remotely or in the office. Some roles will need to be on site more regularly. Remote working is potentially available for some specific roles. Please discuss this with the recruiting manager before accepting an appointment.

The MHRA Communications and Engagement Function is a multi-award-winning team that has a consistent track-record of achievement and providing value for money. Our focus is to support the Agency to deliver its business outcomes by putting patients and the public at the centre of all our work. We are organised in the following teams: News & Media, Communications, Patient and Public Stakeholder Engagement and Customer Experience. This role is in our Communications team.
The Risk Communications team delivers integrated communication strategies and targeted, intelligent communications to patients, the public, and healthcare professionals to help them understand the benefits and risks of healthcare products. Each day is different and the focus is on protecting public health through effective communication, which includes:
- Working with the risk communications team to issue communications through numerous channels writing and adapting these in a way that is understood by the audience.
- Working with multiple channels, including digital, to communicate effectively.
Job description
Were looking for candidates with strong organisational, written and verbal communications skills. Youll need experience of establishing strong working relationships with subject matter experts, working together to develop clear messaging that reflects our organisational values.
- Within the role, you might find you are helping scientific and medical experts to describe a potential new side effect of a medicine or working with our partners in the healthcare system to understand the impact of a communication about actions needed on a medical device.
- Work within the risk communications team to help deliver key public health strategies.
- Issue communication products to key target audiences to deliver the Agencys key messages
- Work as a team member within the Agencys account management structure to effectively communicate business priorities.
- Plan and develop engaging content that responds to business priorities and our drive to be accessible to all audiences.

Person specification
The successful candidate will be able to plan and respond to emerging situation quickly and identify solutions with experience of working under pressure and at pace and developing and delivering communications materials and projects to a high standard. You will have excellent written and oral communication skills, able to communicate complex information clearly and simply in a straightforward, honest and engaging manner. You will have good knowledge and understand of what a risk is and ways to mitigate them to ensure the public are informed. You will also be adept at taking managed risks by fully considering varied impacts changes could have on the diverse range of end users understanding how to manage risks and problem solve.
Benefits
- Annual Leave: 25 days annual leave on entry, rising by one day for each completed year of service to a maximum of 30 days and pro-rata for part-time staff. PLUS 8 bank holidays
