The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) prosecutes criminal cases that have been investigated by the police and other investigative organisations in England and Wales. The CPS is independent, and we make our decisions independently of the police and government.

Job description

  • The job holder will be required to provide oversight and direction to the Digital Information Directorate (DID) financial on Capital, Programme and Licensing budgets ensuring accurate preparation of accounts and financial forecast and reports within a disciplined accounting environment and meeting deadlines.

  • They will act on behalf of the joint Head of DID ICT Corporate Finance Operations and Head of DID ICT Corporate Finance Projects and operating across all teams within DID to ensure that appropriate processes, systems, and procedures are in place to support a comprehensive and robust financial management framework for DID which complies with Government Accounting principles and departmental policies.

  • They will be required to support the evaluation and assess the financial implications for DID on the introduction of new projects and change initiatives using financial forecasting to inform senior managers of the financial impact that ‘change’ will have on DID.

  • The post holder will also be required to provide good knowledge in financial management of the running costs of key contracts and provide financial advices in the project management including budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis.

  •  Be responsible for the running of business-critical month end processes on finance and HR Oracle systems within agreed deadlines.

  • The post holder will also be required to forge, develop, and maintain close working relationships with Finance & Accounts Branch along with internal and external stakeholders to help develop best practice and common operating practices/processes

Person specification

  • Providing and interpreting financial information for joint Head of DID ICT Corporate Finance Operations and Head of DID ICT Corporate Finance Projects and senior managers across DID in order to both inform and assist them in the strategic decision-making process through the provision of high-quality analyses, interpretation and advice.

  •  Maintaining effective monitoring arrangements and reporting on the budgetary expenditure of DID, ensuring regularity, propriety and value for money is being achieved 
  • Assisting Projects Managers within DID to accurately determine and formulate their budgets whilst also considering the business needs and requirements of DID.
  • Providing advice, guidance and assistance to less experienced colleagues (at all levels) as required, through face to face or written guidance and support. 
  • Being responsible for manging running costs and purchase ledger activities of key contracts.
  • Preparation and presentation of monthly financial management reports including analysis, interpretation and recommendations for both Head of ICT Financials and DID.
  • Ensuring the integrity of financial records and documentation to facilitate the production of accurate and timely returns; devising and monitoring plans to facilitate faster closing timetables and implementing contingencies where necessary. 
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining an effective ‘financial management check programme’ to ensure the timely and accurate processing of transactions and payments.

1. Essential Experience:

  • Evidence that they can provide solid financial expertise and evidence that they have done this in a working environment
  • Forecasting, financial status reports, Data analysis, compiling budgets, experience in providing financial information for business cases

2. Essential Technical Skills:

  • Significant experience with MS Excel
  • Good understanding and practical experience in compiling the budget
  • Experience in providing financial expertise to PM/colleague on how to manage their budget
  • Practical experience in preparation and presentation of the monthly financial management reports including analysis, interpretation, and recommendations
