Job Overview

Fantastic opportunity working as part of a team of user researchers in Digital Services, you will collaborate on user centred design with service designers, interaction designers and content designers. The initial focus is on digital transformation projects, however the demand for user research is growing across UKRI as the benefits of understanding user needs through user research is gradually becoming more widely understood.

You’ll be working in a multidisciplinary agile team, where you’ll be leading on the planning and delivery of user research activities for the team. You’ll have a lot of autonomy and support from the team, as well as from the User Research Manager.

Job description

Responsibilities

  • Analysis and synthesis. Understand and help teams to apply a range of methods to analyse research data and synthesise findings. Actively engage sceptical colleagues in analysis and synthesis.
  • Inclusive research. Help teams understand the diversity of users of government services and effectively include all kinds of users in appropriate research activities.
  • Research. Demonstrate experience in a wide range of user research methods, and can help teams to adopt them. Plan user research for services with challenging user needs and complex user journeys.
  • Strategic insight. Understand what problem the team is trying to solve. You can align user research activities to inform decision making and action.
  • Technical understanding (user-centred design). Demonstrate knowledge of the technologies used to build and operate digital services.

Person specification

About you

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience of working in a user centred design team on a digital service
  • Experience and understanding of a range of user research methods, when to use those methods and how to apply them correctly
  • Experience of presenting findings and related design/service recommendations and customer insights to senior decision makers
  • Proven experience in establishing positive working relationships with multiple disciplinary colleagues and senior stakeholders.
