Job summary

Do you want to develop blueprints, reference architectures and design patterns for data?

Do you want to manage and deliver aspects of Data domain architecture activities to meet customer needs?

Do you want to be part of a small core team of architects ensuring conformance of some of the largest digital transformations in Europe to agreed architecture policies, principles, and patterns?

If so, we have an opportunity as a Senior Domain Architect, where you will share your Data domain knowledge and experience to drive IT strategy, including definition of the tools and techniques most appropriate for the environment.

Job description

The successful candidate will:

  • Deliver and promote architecture patterns and solutions for the data domain.
  • Govern solution designs, approving architecture decisions and technology choices.
  • Support the delivery of a data technology roadmap.
  • Understand industry trends, and research, in the data domain.
  • Support Solution Architects within Delivery project teams on data design elements of solutions.
  • Support the definition of the strategic IT data architecture.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.

Salary Information

Pay for this role is from £52,412 to £70,000.

The maximum salary for the grade is £63,517, however a Digital Allowance of up to £6,483 per annum is available for exceptional candidates, based on our assessment of your skills and experience.

Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.

Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.

Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.

  • Governing architecture design of business-critical IT projects/services in a large, complex UK central government or private sector organisation.
  • Data strategies, blueprints, reference architectures and design patterns.
  • Conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling and design.
  • Database design / modelling, technologies, design patterns, tools, and best practice (including RDBMS, NoSQL and Open Source).
  • Public cloud technologies, cloud hosting, and best practice.

Stage 2: Interview

If you’re successful at sift stage you will be invited to a video interview via Microsoft Teams. There, you will be assessed against the following Behaviours and Technical Skills:

You will be asked to do a short (maximum 10 minutes) presentation on an architecture design or pattern you have delivered, explaining the key architecture decisions you made, and what artefacts you prepared to communicate and govern the use of these patterns.

The presentation must be pre-prepared and submitted prior to interview.

Interviews will take place from early January 2024.
