As the Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Officer at Ofgem, you will spearhead the definition and implementation of our data strategy. This leadership role is an opportunity for an experienced data professional to make a significant impact on how data informs and enhances the functioning of the energy marketplace for consumers. Reporting to the Chief Digital and Information Officer, you will provide governance, process digitization, analytics, and artificial intelligence guidance to all teams at Ofgem.
Your leadership will extend to diverse teams, including, Data Business Partnering, Process Digitization, Data Insights, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Data and Information Governance, and Data Operations and Engineering. Through collaborative efforts, you will construct and communicate a clear vision for data in Ofgem, build relationships with organisational leaders, and set guidelines for the use of data and information.
Responsibilities include developing, planning, and delivering work outcomes, ensuring adherence to budget and resource requirements, supporting team development, and focusing on welfare and pastoral care. Furthermore, you will actively contribute to diversity and inclusion efforts within your team and across the wider organisation.
Specific duties involve championing the use of AI within Ofgem, creating a highly skilled AI advisory capability, improving data collation from external parties, and establishing robust governance for data use in decision-making. Your role extends to the creation of a vision statement, strategy, and roadmap for data, analytics, AI, and information in Ofgem.
In building key stakeholder relationships, you will collaborate internally with the Chief Data and Information Officer, Directors, Portfolio Managers, Heads of Professions, and externally with government departments, regulators, technology partners, service providers, data providers, and the energy sector.

Job description
As Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Officer you will take the lead on defining and delivering our data strategy. Key to this will be leading and developing our Data team bringing together expertise in data governance, process digitisation, data insights, data science, data engineering and operations. This is an opportunity for an experienced, senior data professional to play a highly influential leadership role that can radically impact on how data informs and enhances how the energy marketplace operates for consumers.
This role will provide services in governance, process digitisation, analytics and artificial intelligence guidance to all teams at Ofgem using our Common Data Platform, CRM Platform and analytics software products to share data and insights effectively across and up through Ofgem to enable decisions and action.
Person specification
Essential Criteria:
- Proven experience of delivering high quality data and digital strategic outcomes at enterprise level as CDO or equivalent. (Lead criteria)
- Sound insight, analytical skills and judgement with ability to manage data related change programmes in a complex environment. (Lead criteria)
- Demonstrable experience of data and information governance with a track record of delivering value.
- Demonstrable understanding of AI, its applications and governance
- An engaging, adaptable, collaborative leadership style that fosters and supports diversity and inclusion.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written with the ability to enthuse stakeholders and colleagues promoting the effective use of data.
