Job description
This role will be based in the Southampton HQ. MCA supports flexible working and operates a hybrid working model between home and office for this role, giving you greater flexibility over where and when you work. Details of the arrangement will be discussed further with your line manager.
Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
IT Support Management:
- Lead, advise, coach, and provide escalation routes for team members and for Incidents and Problems Management activities occurring in MCA network environments.
- Hands-on support and System Engineer activity to ensure incidents and queries proceed to SLA targets.
- Drive key workload and queue management across IT Systems Engineering team to meet all expected targets.
- Support the delivery of continuous improvement and innovation for the IT Systems Engineers and wider Team, ensuring cross training is provided across all IT Systems Engineer colleagues.
IT Systems Engineering and Project Support:
- Accountable for allocating resource and contributing to the planning and rolling out of key project delivery activity where IT Support or IT Systems Engineering action is required.
- Be able to partake, guide and advise to technical engineering or support tasks that may not be otherwise able to be conducted by other IT Support colleagues.
- Maintain relationships with MCA suppliers and partners.
- Working with colleagues and third party teams, identifies, and manages technical problems and Incidents and lead through to resolution.

Person specification
About You
- Experience operating within a technical IT Support environment.
- Line management experience overseeing performance management targets within an IT support environment.
- Experience using and supporting diverse IT systems, including SharePoint Microsoft 365 admin.
- Understanding of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Principles.
Additional Information
- The role is required to partake in the out of hours on call rota to cover high priority incidents outside of normal working hours.
- The role will require working from both Maritime and Coastguard Agency Southampton HQ office and Fareham Joint Rescue and Coordination Centre and may require travel to other MCA sites throughout the UK.
- The role requires SC Clearance.

- Experience operating within a technical IT Support environment.
- Proven experience in leading and managing IT teams, including task assignment, performance evaluation, and team development.
- Strong documentation skills for system configurations, procedures, and incident reports.
- Experience using and supporting diverse IT systems, including SharePoint Microsoft 365 admin.
Your personal statement will be limited to a maximum of 1,250 words.
It is essential when submitting your personal statement that you provide as much detail as possible, and utilise the full word count given, against the essential criteria outlined above as this will be used in conjunction with your CV to assess candidate suitability to move to the next round in the recruitment process.
