You will join the Integrated Risk and Intelligence Service (IRIS), which is a collaboration between DWP Digital, Counter Fraud, Compliance and Debt (CFCD) and Cyber Resilience Centre (CRC).

IRIS is central to the DWP fraud and error strategy and is radically transforming how the welfare system and those that use it are protected. 

Job description

• Support the delivery of analytics or software projects produced by Data Scientists or Data Analysts.

• Provide support to specific projects or individual pieces of work under direction of the product owner.

• Participate in the design and implementation of analytics solutions and products, such as: 
– Data analytics that find potential opportunities or problem behaviours previously unknown or unquantified.
– Rapid prototypes of data-driven tools that test hypotheses with stakeholders and users. 
– Create and validating advanced data science techniques such as machine learning models that can be deployed within digital applications. 
 
• Helping to facilitate communication of technical findings, models, and insights to different technical and non-technical audiences.
 
• Supporting the growth of the team, by keeping abreast of market and industry trends and sharing knowledge and experience with the rest of the team.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post. 

Salary Information

Salary for this role is from £34,173 (Band min) to £34,971 (Band max).

Where the maximum salary of £34,971 is offered, a Digital Allowance of up to £9,050 per annum is available for exceptional candidates, based on our assessment of your skills and experience.

Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.

Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.

Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.

Selection process details

Stage 1: Application

Your application will consist of three parts:

3. Personal statement up to 1000 words. 

When giving details in your employment history and personal statement you should highlight your experience in line with essential criteria below:

• Academic background in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or similar experience and aptitude.    

• Some experience of delivering data-driven solutions; including gathering and manipulating disparate data, applying analytical techniques and visualising results.   

• Some knowledge of a range of core data science techniques (e.g. classification, text similarity and clustering) and associated limitations.   

• Must have SQL and Python (or similar query-based or high level programming experience) to a beginner level.    

• Good written and verbal communication, with the ability to present to technical and non-technical audiences.    

• Stakeholder and customer awareness, with some experience working with a range of people to deliver results.   

• Delivery focused to create working solutions often and iteratively.

Stage 2: Interview

If you’re successful at sift stage you will be invited to a video interview via Microsoft Teams. There, you will be assessed against the following Behaviours and Technical Skills:

You will be asked to do a short (5 minutes) presentation on a specific topic. Further details will be provided to candidates invited to interview.
