DWP Digital Group is organised into Communities of Practice, which are groups of people with similar or closely related skills, experience, and job responsibilities, so they can easily collaborate, share ideas and skills to build their own capabilities and achieve better outcomes.

There are two roles available within the Data Practice Support Team and one within the Product Professions Practice Support Team.

These roles will support the Lead and Senior Digital Practice Support Managers to drive forward an ambitious programme of transformation activities for the Communities of Practice.

Data Roles: There are two roles available within the team working within the recruitment and talent workstreams.

Talent – The talent position will primarily focus on supporting and growing future talent through schemes such as apprenticeships, partnerships with external institutions, outreach with schools and universities and career pathways into Digital.  

Recruitment – This position will support the recruitment lead in all recruitment activity, including the planning, co-ordination and scheduling of recruitment campaigns, liaising with senior stakeholders to forecast future vacancies.   

Product Role: Practice Support Manager – For this position you will support the provision of a comprehensive package of activity to build practice capability. Co-Coordinating recruitment, deploy members to assignments, identify suitable learning & development opportunities, support the organisation of practice events and in developing their Practice frameworks and plans, including measurable outcomes.

For all roles you may also be required to provide support across the full range of practice activities including communications and engagement, reporting and information management, budgets, and cultivating strong collaborative relationships to achieve results.

Job description

As a Digital Practice Support Manager, you will be responsible for supporting and building capability and capacity within your Practice community.

You will work closely with the Lead and Senior Digital Practice Managers, Head of Practice (HoP), Executive Sponsor and Heads of Role (HoR) to:

• Build capability and employee engagement within the Community of Practice. 

• Identify suitable learning opportunities by analysing members needs/skills and cross checking with available learning

• Develop career pathways into Digital/Data.

• Be an active member of the Digital Practice Support community, driving and leading opportunities to share knowledge and develop a strong community presence.

• Develop and create reporting tools, templates and processes which provide effective management information reports to HoP/HoRs.

• Help to identify and implement key performance metrics to drive continuous improvement to practice maturity.

• Organising and delivering engaging Practice community communications and events/conferences.

• Play an active role in the Practice community, helping practice members understand the bigger picture beyond their own team, encouraging collaborative delivery and helping build capability.

• Supporting and growing future talent through schemes such as apprenticeships, partnerships with external institutions, outreach with schools and universities and career pathways into Digital. 

• Analysing and considering requests from the community, liaising with relevant stakeholders to propose a recommended course of action.

• Recording and monitoring financial expenditure against budgets.

• Support recruitment activities, including the planning, co-ordination and scheduling of vacancies, liaising with senior stakeholders to forecast future opportunities.   

Person specification

• Well-developed communication skills, with demonstrable experience of understanding different internal and external audiences, ensuring the tone, language and format of communication is easily accessible and understood.

• Experience of working with multiple stakeholders to improve the engagement or capability within a large organisation.

• Ability to inspire and motivate others to be fully engaged in their work and dedicated to their role.

• Ability to use and maintain accurate data and analyse it to inform decision-making and support recommendations or actions.

• Experience of understanding and reflecting different individual needs, views and ideas which demonstrate championing inclusion and equality of opportunity for all

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post. 

Salary Information

Salary for this role is from £34,173 (Band min) to £34,971 (Band max).

Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.

Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.

Stage 1: Application

Stage 2: Interview
